When I originally purchased my Thruxton R it came with the screen attached. For the past few years I have always felt that my helmet seemed rather noisy, I was constantly being buffeted.
I had never ridden my Thruxton R without a screen so didn’t know any different up until today.
I removed the screen and ventured out for my first ride of the year.
Wow what a difference my helmet is quiet and the buffeting has stopped.
My conclusion is that the screen doesn’t do anything productive in fact its counter productive in every sense.
I’d go as far as saying the screen concentrates the buffeting to the head and over powered my earplugs.
I’d love to put it through a wind tunnel to prove my point.
I’m keen to hear from others on the forum who have sampled the screen on and off their bike and what their experiences have been.

Sorry I should have said my helmet is an Arai Quantic, which is considered quiet.

I had the same experience way back with a Suzuki GSX 1400,paid a fair bit for a screen fitted it and after only 3 miles i was heading home to take it off ! The wind roar was dreadful. My friend that had the same bike and screen agreed re the noise but reckoned it looked great so kept it on ? I have never put extra's on a bike with the idea that it will " turn heads "

I think it looks equally as nice with or without but my hearing is far more important over looks. I also find I’m less tired without the screen as my head has less movement.
The only advantage I can see of having a screen is if u put your chin on the tank then it probably works.

I took mine off after 2 days of ownership. I felt to me that the screen deflected the wind directly to my bonce ! At around 60 mph and above it felt like my head was being ripped off.

It doesn't help that the lid I use is open face though

I have removed the screen of mine after a few miles, having bought one to fit the new, to me, Thruxton. It only really worked with crouching very low, and don't that look stupid. What followed was months of making and trying new shapes using a heat gun, grinder, band saw and sander on acrylic sheet.
Think I am on my tenth version now, which has been on the bike for about a year. ( I have modified the bracket a bit too). It works well, it pushes the air to the side onto my shoulders, I can really notice this at speed, and there is little head buffeting. The real issue now is do I like what it looks like? I hated how the triumph screen looked, it was so clunky and reminded me of those old guys pottering around behind huge plastic screens on trips down to the shops for the misses. I know this may be me at some point but not at the moment.
I'm reasonably happy with how it looks, but have to move on to a best version made with a bit more finesse. Managed to locate a line bender that will make a difference.
The whole process was an massive waist of hours but I loved it. I will try and find a pick to upload
I also tried to find an after market screen that worked and fitted from a range of makers but was never convinced enough to spend the money

Keen to see a pic of the latest version.
I am used to not having it on now.
The one thing I do miss is that the screen kept the flies away from the dials was far easier just cleaning a screen.

I have a small screen on my Thruxton which I like the look of. I don’t get any buffering from it.

I have yet to see a screen that enhances any Bonneville in any way, just my opinion of course perhaps i am just lucky in thinking that when its uncomfortable i will simply slow down.

This works fine for me but I want to remake it with sharper folds
