Has anybody fitted any type of chainoiler to their Thruxton?

....or is everybody just lubing their chain using spray on lube or even old fashioned oil dribbled on from an oil can?

If yes, what automatic oiler are you using?, where did you fit it?.....pics?

    Cheers,

I don't trust Scottoilers, if they aren't right , they oil the road. I use spray grease or oil on a rag , but then again i'm not doing many miles these days .

I fitted the standard Scottoiler when I bought my Bonnie and have ridden 5k trouble free miles since fitting.
Fantastic simple product, follow Delboy fitting instructions on YouTube and a bit of common sense and you will have trouble free, maintenance free chain lubrication.
A bit of patience setting the one drop per 60 seconds dispensing, but as a quick visual check I always like to see a few specs of oil sprayed on my number plate after riding.

I have a scottoiler on my Doris, it's strapped to the frame running down just behind the right hand side panel. Works well. No pics I'm afraid

I used to use a Scotoiler on all my previous bikes, but I think they've got a bit too expensive so I bought a Loobman chain oiler and it works just fine, totally controllable.

On my Tiger 800XC that I px'd for my Thruxton 12 I had fitted a Lubeman chain oiler. It always worked a treat, cost a song compared to a Scottoiler and was easy peasy to fit as there was loads of room on the swinging arm. I took it off the Tiger prior to trading with the intention of fitting it onto the Thruxton.

When I bought the Thruxton it felt, in comparison to the out going Tiger, like a three quarter scale motorcycle...I'm sure my first ever motorbike, a Suzuki TS 100 back in 1973, was just as big as the Thruxton!.....anyway, I thought I'll never get the Lubeman to fit in there!!!

But winter boredom has got to me and this afternoon I spent an hour out on the drive, on my knees, in the bright but cold sunshine, praying to my craven idle fiddling the Lubeman into a titchy little gap.

Well, it's on, seems to work but it's a few weeks and salt free weather away from a real test ride before I know for sure whether it's Lubeman or aerosol lubing for me! IMG_0376.JPG IMG_0971.JPG

Sprocket could do with a bit of a clean dickydido, makes the bike look uncared for. lol

It could do with a sprocket oiler as well as chain oiler.

    Hi Wag,

....on a Lubeman chainoiler, everything about it is low-tech, but it works well and is reflected in its price....

......it uses a short length of cable tie attached to the end of the oil delivery pipe to act as a wick to take the oil onto the sprocket.....the cable tie actually touches the sprocket....as the cable tie wears you just increment it forward to maintain the light contact with the sprockets teeth.

....take a closer look at the photo and you can make it out......both sprocket and chain get lubed....arriving at this point of the sprocket, as the sprocket turns the oil gets quickly swept into the pinch point of the chain/sprocket interface, forcing the oil into/onto the links and rollers and reduces fling.......however like all oilers, if you overfeed it everything gets well lubed!.....but that at least eliminates the generic problem of modern day Triumphs..........rusty spokes!

    Cheers,

Unless things have changed since I bought my Loobman chain oiler, the installation as shown in the picture is not the one recommended by Loobman. There is a part missing - the delivery head - which has two prongs which go either side of the rear sprocket. It should be installed so it is at 45° (pointing down and back) and at 3-4 o' clock. The oil goes through the delivery head, down the prongs and onto the sprocket and therefore both sides of the chain.

Hi thebiglad......I 've just been out to the garage and dug out the Lubeman instruction sheet that came with the kit that I bought in 2013.

The kit included the options of either single feed (oil delivery pipe using cable tie wick) or a double headed delivery attachment as you describe.

One of the paragraphs of the comprehensive Loobman installation sheet says:

''Single v's Dual Sided delivery, pros and cons

Single delivery is robust, easy to fit and is unlikely to be caught or trapped by the chain. Dual delivery is more efficient, however any contact with the sprocket teeth will wear out the oil guides and the head may be torn off by the chain if is not fitted correctly.''

On reading this I chose single delivery as it sounded far more dickydido proof than the dual sided delivery.....and easier and cheaper to mend if it did get chewed up by the chain and/or the sprocket. And I have to say even with the less efficient single delivery installed it very efficiently oiled both chain and sprockets for the 3 years it was fitted to the Tiger. I adjusted the chain on it when I first brought it home from the dealer, it was set up too tight, fitted the Loobman and I never had to touch it again while I owned it, brilliant bit of kit......I hope it proves as good on the Thruxton.

    Cheers,

OK mate, understood. I bought mine last year and it made no mention of the single delivery method. I have to say that I'm very pleased with my Loobman also - it does what it says on the tin !!!
