Speed R Triple 2016< Ride by wire

The freeplay on my throttle is too much and it is causing issues at slow speeds and when I am changing down gears.
The best way I can quantify the movement is it seems a couple of degrees or about 8mm travel before the slack is taken up.
When changing down through the gears I am blipping the throttle to match engine speed to wheel speed, but with freeplay more often than not I get it wrong - (rider error maybe)

I have opened up the throttle housing and it seems a rather simple solution to reduce the freeplay by jamming something between the grip and the receiving unit, but has anyone else experienced this and resolved the issue.
I am aware of the need to have some freeplay so it can tick over correctly with the throttle properly closed, but the freeplay out of the factory is just to much so I want to close it up a bit.

Is it wise to 'adapt' the ride by wire freeplay?

I would ask the question at the dealers as in many fly by wire systems the free play value is preset in the ECU and could result in intermittent / non-starting as the ECU doesn't see the correct values at switch on / startup !
