Really??? I've ridden the S1000rr and it was brilliant but had about as much character as a German traffic warden. :frown:

It was the bike I wanted last year and I ended up buying the speed more as a stop gap.. If I had gelled with it better then I may have kept it.
I love the styling of the speed especially mine and if I had the money then I would have both...
A mate has the S1000rr as well and I like it.. Mentally fast with loads of gadgets...
I'm down to test ride it when it comes out and I'll make my decession then but I'm pretty sure i will be changing....

Sat on the BMW at the bike show and like it very much. Money no object I would be very tempted, think Triumph are getting slowly left behind in the power stakes.

Your not wrong.. The BMW makes the same as mine in rain mode.....

For me it's because I can't get comfortable on long trips...1 days riding no issues 350-400 miles I'm ok... But by the end of day 2 I'm a ruined man.. I think it may be because I've not ridden it as much as my other bikes before hand.... I've never had issues with comfort on my previous bikes...
Even the superduke was not an issue on 4-5 day trips....

And I have a big padded arse as well...

Yeah but it's a long stroke slow revving lump that puts out 135bhp & 83ft/lbs of tourque I think...which is the same as my Speed...

It needs to be an engine with 150-160 BHP & cloae to 90ft/lb torques minimum or it will get swallowed by the KTM & BMW... Especially if they leave the styling as it is...

Must admit I am having a few issues as far as comfort on long rides; although I'm not sure Triumph designed the Speed Triple as a long distance machine. My trouble is I want a light fun bike to ride but also want to do 2 or 3 big rides a year. How do you know the S1000R will be more comfortable over long distance, its something you just can not pick up on a test ride?
I thought in 2011 that I had the perfect machine: Ducati Multistrada 1200S, light, powerful, fast and would tour. Pity the fecking thing was a warranty nightmare! Just be sure you want to be the first owner of a new model of bike...... although I think I would trust BMW more than Ducati on making sure the release model was fault free.
Several of us have an 3000+ mile Alps tour booked for June and think I will know at the end of that if I can live with the Speed Triple (knees more than anything). Let us know how you get on on good luck with the Beemer if that's the way you go.

Cheers Richard... As with any bike purchase you never know what's its going to be like...
I remember my old CBR600 sport. When I bought it I thought the seat was like a plank...
Got used to it over a period of time though..
I now have the ability and options to swap my bikes if they are not quite right.. Always wanted to buy the BM and if it was available last year I would have bought it over the Speed...
Not going to know about comfort but as its aBM I hope, nay prey it's going to be ok..
Seat is more padded and softer then S1000RR and rear is slightly lower and pegs dropped... Sounds good to me as my mate thinks his S1000RR Is ok...
Not going to know till March anyway... Thinking of putting a deposit down though so I get it in March...

Will be a great shame to lose you SB, just cos you have a different brand of bike doesn't make you an outcast! These days you can't get a "bad" bike only the wrong bike. Don't forget to introduce us to her when you get her home :upyeah:

I must learn to read as I thought a Speedmaster to an S1000 is quite a brave move

I had a Speed Triple as a courtesy bike last year. Great fun for 30 minutes then I wanted to give it back. Far too cramped and my old knees couldn't stand it. I'ver not ridden the BM but sat on one recently and it "felt" bigger than the ST. Whether that translates into real comfort you won't find out until 200 miles into France.

Good luck with whatever you do!

I got to say that the Speed Triple was one of the most comfortable bikes I've ridden 1600 miles in 4 days up to Cumbria and Scotland and apart from a few aches in my shoulders from wind buffering I had no issues with the distance.

Still think the Speed Triple is one of the best modern bikes about, It does not need all these new traction control, launch control, fuel maps and fly by wire gubbins.
The frame and engine are so good they didn't need all that. Just a great bike. I know that a lot of people like more power and the latest and greatest bike. I have been down that road with Fireblades and the like and am not going doing that road again.

I can truly say for the first time that I am happy with the bikes that I have got, although I wish I could have kept the 2011 Speed Triple.

Live every day to the full my friend - fuck the bank balance - next on my list is the KTM 1290 and / or the S1000R but I don't think either will have the soul that the Speed has? Looks like Bry may be building me a bigger mancave
