Reminds me of the time when I was absolutely balls out skint and just had to have a new tyre on the bike to get to work. It was 1979, the bike was a Suzuki X7, and if I remember correctly the tyre was meant for a sidecar!

Very, very interesting. TBH I like the idea a lot. I hate being ripped off by anything over-priced because it is sold to gullible enthusiasts.

I'm starting to look at tyre sites, don't know how far it'll go.

I first read this a year or so ago, I like it too, only I think like Dougie, though I know not why, proply best on a Cruiser.Love the idea of thousands of miles more and more resilence for less. The guy is a yank and so lots of long straight roads I look forward to more convincing evidence

I've just recently put a new rear on my cruiser, otherwise i might be tempted to try this,I'm not sure if the insurance company would be happy though o_O. but i can see it working, the profile on cruiser tyres are more similar to cars than tyres on other bikes,i get pretty close to the edge with mine and i have footboards so the angle of lean is limited,(although the boards are scraped along with my exhaust ) but i have noticed other cruisers that use all the tyre and their lean angle are limited too,so this would suggest a car tyre would not sound as daft as it first seems. it would be interesting to hear what insurance company's views on this would be

i might just phone out of curiosity,if the premium is a lot more it might not be worth it, unless you were doing a large mileage every year

Would like to try, but suspect after the first corner you would push it home!!!!

Maybe work for certain riders riders that don't lean there bikes over ;), but not for me. :D

i think you would be ok, as according to the guy he can scrape the pegs and the Valkyrie has more ground clearance than the majority of cruisers..unless he's talking bull  which i don't think he is

Wonder how it would cope with on a track day? There would be some serious head scratching done. Mind you it wouldn't pass safety checks but hey ho Worlds fastest Indian had homemade tyres on!!

wouldn't fancy going on a track with them on,but on a cruiser where you can get right to the edge of the tyre with only a 35 degree lean angle, i think it would be fine.
note.. i am not recommending anyone to try a car tyre out..and definitely not if you are a novice !!!!

Shame all my bikes have thin rims as I would have given them a crack.

Good for you Jez ! their might not be a big selection of tyres in the size and speed rating you need, but good luck :) and remember and take it easy for the first mile or so , and the guy did say you need to use more counter steering than normal but as it's a cruiser you probably do this anyway:)

Jez is their a reason for getting a different rim rather than using the original?
