Tiger 800 That's Me Done For This Year

Discussion in 'Tiger / Explorer' started by billyandmollysdad, Dec 1, 2019.

  1. I've decided to SORN the bike till next year....
I won't ride it when the roads are covered in salt, soit might as well stay warm and dry in the garage.
Do you guys bother removing the battery over winter ? i don't have power in my garage so can't leave it on an optimate.

I’d disconnect it but leave it in as you’ll need to start her up every now and again

My brain just dropped out of gear - again! When I read that you'd lost your keys I thought ... err ... why don't you ring 'em? But that only works with mislaid mobile phones. DOH!!! Silly me!!
I think I need to lie down with a bucketful of Nursey's meds.:scream:

  8. I've found it !!!
I wore an old jacket that the zip had gone on the last time i was working on the bike.
After i'd finished, i chucked the jacket in the dogs bed - we have a lab puppy..
That's where the key was, in the pocket of my old jacket in the dogs bed :grinning::joy::joy:

Well my battery tender is hooked up and the temperature got above zero today for the first time in days. The amount of salt out there has my chrome cringing and my enthusiasm dulled. The dry stone walls round here are pretty unforgiving......

Mixed thoughts about this, although most professional opinions I've heard say the same..don't do it. There's a short article in this months Classic Motorcycle Mechanics which recommends that bikes aren't run like this during winter lay-ups. They say it can cause all sorts of problems with batteries, plugs, oil-contamination, condensation and more. These chaps generally know their stuff. Battery on Optimate, drain tank and carbs (if you've got them), tyres off ground if possible (at correct pressure). But of course it's your choice.
