So today my bike had its first 800km service and for the first time they let me watch the whole thing. I was curious how they adjusted the chain without removing the exhausts.
First job was the lubricate the locks (ignition, seat) then the cables.
Next he connected up the bike to the computer for a new update.
Next he checked and adjusted the tyre pressures
Next he drained the oil and removed the filter
Next (whilst the oil was draining) he loosened off the axle nut with an open ended spanner and by slightly moving the silencers he was able to get to the chain adjusters with just ordinary spanners. Whilst there wasn’t a great deal of room he was still able to do it. After everything was nipped back up he tightened the axle nut. I asked if he was going to use a torque wrench but he said no. His experience was his torque wrench. He said knew how much to tighten it up by.
    Next came chain lubrication
Followed by new oil and filter, and finally a test ride.

Price came to 130 Euros which wasn’t too bad. So it does appear you can adjust the chain without too much faffing. It was nice of the dealer to let me watch. What do you guys think.

I'm no mechanic, far from it, and recently had my Bonneville serviced at a main dealer also, however, when the actual job is itemised as this is, and it's a basic service only, I feel certain that I could do this.

The wasp (VStrom) is in for its first service now today. Not bothering to watch that. I have a BMW RNineT as a loaner. Could have it till Tuesday but not bothered, just want waspy back.
Exhaust on the Beemer sounds grand though really roarty and poppy when changing down.
