    morning gents. Suffolk newbie here with a hankering for a scrambler to customise!

    A good few used ones out there in the usual places. Looking for something stock but not sure if there is anything I should be aware of? Notice they changed to efi in 09 I think - are the carb models any good, too old, should I buy new as possible? Also not sure what is considered S high mileage on a bike like this?

    Any advice would be very welcome.

    Hi n welcome, if you are going to go mad with mods then buy an old one with as low miles as you can :)

    Hi FDf and welcome to the Triumph Asylum.

    Scramblers are now a bit of a fashion accessory so they are holding their values really well but onto your specific questions:

    1. Carb and EFi models are both great and both have advantages so really don't worry about it, just get a good example and work from there;

    2. High mileage a problem? Well I suppose it depends what you call HIGH? I've a pal who has an America (same engine) which has done over 120,000 kms (roughly 75,000mls) always ridden two-up and he cracks on and is still going very strong. Services himself and changes oil often.

    3. I wouldn't be concerned about age personally, more condition, provable service history and equipment.

    Hope that helps,
    Dave

    PS Honestly these Bonnys are just great bikes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks Dave, exactly the info I needed. Day off work today, so a few hours trawling the net could be in order!

    Hi and welcome in . I agree with HT - if you are going to customise it, consider a Bonneville as it may be slightly cheaper to buy. Bit more bhp and a 360 degree crank as opposed to the 270 of the scrambler.
    You can easily swap parts over - my old Bonnie had scrambler mudguards and shocks fitted.

    Hi flip, if I were you I'd go to your local triumph dealership and have a go on the Scrambler before you make your mind up, you don't have to buy one from them but at least you could compare it to the bonny. The other comments are correct that the bonny has a bit more bhp but I prefer the engine note of the scrambler and the mods you can do. Good luck in your search.

    Thank you for all your input, all sounds like good advice. Went and had a look at an 04 Bonny in the week, but think my heart is set on a scrambler! The search continues, I'll let you know when I've found one :)

    Got one! Almost new, fabulous untouched condition with just 130 mile son the clock. VERY happy!

    Now, where to start......exhaust? tail tidy? What are the 'must do's?
