I can't believe I'm having so much trouble finding out whether the handlebars on a 2016 Street Twin are 7/8" or 1". I've seen a thread that says they are 1" but taper for the controls.

However they look to my eyes and my tape measure to be 7/8", but that's just holding the measure above and below so not very accurate. I don't have any callipers to measure correctly. The reason I need to know is that on the National Cycles website where I select the bike model, they indicate that I should use the 1" quickset mount. But it simply doesn't look like a 1" bar to my eyes.

So I just want to confirm that it indeed is or is not a 1" bar, at the point where the quickset struts would mount. Or do they use different gauge bars in different parts of the world? I'm in Australia.

    How's your maths ?
You could measure the circumference with a piece of string, measure that against a ruler and then given that the circumference of a circle is 2 x Pi x r where r = radius, you can calculate the diameter. Or find a neighbour with some calipers.:D
Or make your own caliper using two pieces of wood and two pieces of dowel. Drill two holes in each piece of wood, glue one piece to the dowels, let the other piece slide up and down. Measure the tube, hold it tight and measure the gap with a ruler.

Believe me when I say I really did consider wheeling out the circular saw and fabricating a roughly hewn wooden set of vernier callipers. But meantime I have had it confirmed that they are indeed 7/8" by the local Triumph tech guy. However I'm now left wondering why National Cycles list it as requiring a 1" Quickset mount. They seemed pretty confident that they've tested it. I just didn't want to wait weeks for delivery to find that it's wrong. But I have found a local supplier so I guess it's all good.
