I'm looking to take out breakdown assistance. START is the best value. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Off subject - one year on the Wirral Egg Run - I was riding my Hayabusa. The bike broke down and I contacted my insurer MCE who provided breakdown cover. Imagine my Suprised when an artic turned up with HEAVY HAULAGE all over the cab and trailer - yes this was sent to recover my Busa. Took along time to live that one down. Now have RAC recovery on car that also covers my bike.

Not heard of START, but my insurance with Carol Nash provides breakdown as standard.
I used them recently when my coolant emptied itself when I parked up.
They had a local independent guy come over within 90 min who did a good enough job.

I would say check with your insurer and see if it is already included, if not ask them if it can be at no extra cost.

Having had a quick glance, depending on the level of cover you are looking at depends very much on how much value it is. Some of their T's and C's are a bit dubious (again depending on the option selected) - have a very good read through the exclusions and restrictions in particular to see if they are actually covering what you want.

As per the above, pretty much every insurer will be able to offer you a breakdown cover option, again read the levels of cover/exemptions thoroughly first. Otherwise RAC and AA can cover bikes too (mine is covered by our RAC policy, although also currently covered by the RAC under Triumph Assist too) the biggest advantage of these is they can cover the individual in/on any vehicle whereas the other options will only cover the one bike.

Have used Carole Nash breakdown cover as included with their insurance policies and always had good service when being recovered for punctures or needing attendance on roadside repairs in my Moto Guzzi days.

RAC roadside came with the insurance, so I'll go with that for now.
