I've had a bit of a search through the forum and can't find much else on this issue - if it even is an issue - but is it normal for the throttle grip to have 2 or 3 mm of side to side play? I'm not talking about the rotational slack that is required for the cable, but side to side movement. Just been out on my new old Speed Triple and I don't seem to recall my last one having this play, albeit that was about 7 years ago.

    Any help much appreciated :)

The throttle is just a tube held in place by the housing, the side movement is a good sign in that there is freeplay and nothing is sticking.
I have about 2mm movement on my 2010 Speedie

I do not think it is anyhting to worry about

My 955i S3 has about the same movement, thought it strange at first but doesn't affect anything. It's fine.

Thanks Shamus, its a bit odd to start with but think I've got used to it now. As an aside, nice Triple in your profile pic, what mirrors are those you have fitted and do they work?

Three pistons do a nice bar end mirror and they work ok :)

Yes it did feel odd but didn't affect the throttle movement any. The pic is actually when the previous owner had it, since put on a bellypan, rad cowls and a change of exhausts amongst other things. The bar end mirrors were on when I got them, just cheap Chinese ones available for a few quid, the're actually pretty good, they only fold inward when into triple figures (private road honest) but give a decent view rearward.

Very nice. I saw those cheap ones on eBay and wondered if they worked, I've ordered a pair now, worth a try at 8.99

I've got used to it now and don't even notice. The problem was I hadn't ridden for nearly 7 years so just about everything felt weird!

lol only 7 years, bloody novice novice. Was about 26 years away from bikes for me and there are guys much longer outta the saddle in here.
