Hi all, unfortunately the gearbox on my 2011 Speed Triple 1050 had a gearbox issue, so I returned it under warranty. I've found a 2010 John Bloor edition for sale that I really like, but I'm not sure how it compares to the 2011 version beyond what I've read about aesthetics and riding position; I loved how the 2011 rode. Has anyone owned both, and how different are they?

    Thanks

I haven’t owned both so this is based off limited riding.
I prefer the looks of the 2010 by far but the handling of the 2011. Had a Street Triple at the time and the 2011 Speed felt very similar in terms of handling - felt lighter and more nimble to me.
The 2010 just required that bit more effort to do everything handling wise. engines were very similar so you’ll still be smiling on both.
2010s model in good condition will be a future classic - last of the round lights.

Hi Davie, both the 2010 and 2011 had gearbox issues as did later year models as well, however not all machines are affected, as such it's a bit of a lottery if you have one that's good or has issues. The difference in spec is minimal, it comes down to aesthetics more than anything. I repaired a 2010 one not to long ago, I obtained a stronger modified spring from Germany and replaced the arm and bearing, some forum members have had the bearing become detached and thankfully it made it's was direct to the sump (it could have had disastrous consequences had it jammed in elsewhere). All this said they are a great machine, I went for the Street Triple 765rs instead as I find it a more entertaining ride, also there is little difference in performance, the speed triple has more low and mid range torque but the Street Triple if happy being revved and has plenty of grunt. I have posted some pictures that I took whilst fixing the problem. The beauty of buying from a dealer is the warranty, however make sure it is not a third party warranty, they are honestly not worth the paper it is written on despite what a dealer tries to tell you.
