    Hi Guys,

I am looking at upgrading the original front suspension on my Triple - just the springs and cartridges, not the whole unit. At the moment the front is heavily preloaded which has reduced travel!

My rear shock is a Nitron R3, but they don't do front suspension...yet! They said they are rolling out front suspension over this year and may not have a Triumph Speed Triple solution until this summer.
They recommended Adreani (FTR Suspension) as a possible replacement system, the techie at Nitron had heard very good feedback on them. Do any of you guys have info on their product.

Any other provider that I could consider?
I have looked at K-Tech but they are quite far, (I am just west of London)

    Bumping this thread...
Does anyone have any experience of upgrading their front suspension?
If so, what are your thoughts on the parts and suppliers you used?

It might be worth looking in on the Triumph Rat forum, their quite clued up on that sort of thing.

I've never bothered with upgrades, though I have had the suspension set up for me on my last 2 bikes, well worth it.
Let us know how you get on though.

So, my Speed Triple 1050 2010 is booked into FTR Suspension for K-Tech pistons and spring set upgrades.
Is anyone near Braintree CM7 5JQ on Tue 23rd... it would be good to meet up with anyone in the area.

Maxton, absolutely top class people and great quality stuff.I contacted them with a view to sorting the terrible front end and this is what they said.

The front forks on the Speed Triple 1050 are upside down forks with radially

mounted brake callipers. They are an unusual design in that one leg has

rebound damping and no compression damping, the other leg has

compression damping and no rebound damping. This makes setting up

the damping up very difficult. Both fork legs have springs, which are on

the soft side for the average rider weight. It is basically a cheap design of

fork. The design has been chosen so that the user gets rebound and

compression damping adjusters, without having to put damping adjusters

at the bottom of the fork.

We replace most of the internals and modify others, so that the forks have

rebound damping and compression damping in both legs. The rebound

and compression damping is valved to suit your rider weight and what

you use the bike for. We also modify the original fork tops to take our

internals. We then fit harder Maxton springs to suit your rider weight. After

the conversion the forks are adjustable for rebound damping and

preload, the compression damping is not adjustable but has been valved

to suit you and what you use the bike for. The Maxton cartridges costs

    £365.00 + V.A.T.

To install the cartridges and service the forks costs £115.00 + V.A.T. We usually

fit new fork seals as part of the conversion this costs an extra £25.00 + V.A.T.

Ahh bugger, I am paying a little under that for the pistons, springs and overhaul. I wanted the Andreani cartridges, but they don't make them for the 2010 bike now as it is old!!!

The front system is a bit odd, I would have much preferred new cartridges with compression and rebound in both legs

    Deposit has been paid too.

    Thanks for the reply though.

Had the forks done on Tuesday and in the ride home realised something wasn't right.
In my 'excitement' I left without FTR suspension properly checking the rebound and compression! The front was bouncing like a pogo stick, I tried increasing rebound all the way in but it had no effect. It seems not enough oil had been put in, looking at the notes they gave me the oil was filled to 150mm from top of tube with 5w oil. Haynes manual says it should be 114mm and 10w oil! So the pistons/valves aren't in the oil! They said I would need to either post the forks or ride back to them to resolve it, but I don't fancy another day off work, 150 miles trip and £30 of fuel. I am sure I can sort this myself by topping up with more oil.

Am I okay to top it up with 5w or should I replace the lot with 10w, the springs are harder for my weight which helps a lot and the pistons/valves allow better setting up, or should I return to the suspension guys?

Hi RT, if it had been me I would have taken it straight back but that's too late now.

Re the fork oil I would top it up to 114 with 5 weight oil. Here's my reasoning:
You've had heavier weight springs installed to deal with the weight of bike and rider. As the weight of fork oil determines how the shock absorbing characteristics of the valves work, it should be the same oil as they specified - after all you took the bike to a suspension specialist and paid them good money didn't you? The Haynes book of lies is talking about the std. suspension setup, not your modified setup.

    Cheers BL
Had a reply from FTR Suspension and they suggest adding 30ml of 5w in each fork, I can do that over this weekend
If more is needed I can do, it is easier to add rather than take out
