Snapped key, in barrel, with steering lock on....ffs

Just remove the barrel and throw it away, I do it on every bike I Buy/Own ! As I've had the nasty experience (On a Laverda) of the barrel disintegrating and falling into the locked position whilst manoeuvering out of an underground car park! Nearly tossed me and the bike in a shite pile ! It's only worth a penny in comparison to your machine !!! And as an anti theft device forget it ! I"ve heard of guys breaking through some real heavy deterrents to get a bike, just buy a new key so you can still get the seat off, enjoy your machine and don't worry about it disappearing / being stolen. If someone wants it. It's gone !I insure mine that gives me all the peace of mind I need !!!!

Another good idea DD, you're like the 'Marge Proops' of the Triumph world! Lol
Just be careful with them there magnets, I once forgot I had put a 25mm dia. Neo-dynium magnet in my pocket, nearly crushed mi bollocks when I went to unlock the car.
It took the AA 2 hours to work out how to separate me from the car door.

 

You will have a job to get the ignition off as they have shear bolts. I think your best way it remove the top yoke and then remove the barrel to work on it ( should be able to remove with a punch). Id take to a locksmith who can then remove and replace.

 

Can you get the point of a needle in. You may be able to firk it out little by little . Worth a punt. I know it has worked before but depends how far in the key broke and how tight it fitted. I would think the key would be just a tiny bit proud of the barrel. Good luck mate. And no piss taking from me.

 

Not being silly, but superglue...
If careful. can you superglue a screwdriver to the end of the key and when set, remove it?

Or; 3m adhesive pad, that would pull the key out depending on how much is exposed

For a quick try you may be able to use blue tac, I have done it before with a door key

 

Whats the best oil to put in the barrel as my key is really stiff? and don't want the same thing happening to me
i did put some wd40 in but it's not made any differance

I just use chain lube. Install the pipe and press

 

WD 40 is a Water Displacing fluid, not a lubricant, a few drops of 3 in 1 should keep things operating nicely.

 

Been using it for years and never knew WD stood for that.

 

How did he get it out, could be useful for others ? If you could get it out yourself most key cutters could cut a key to suit from the main bit.
