    Hi all,

So the time is finally upon me, my mod one is on Monday then Wednesday (assuming I pass mod 1) I have my mod two.
Something I'm struggling with however is road position when taking a right into a side road. My instructor has barked at me a couple of times for getting my position wrong and I guess I'm just not getting it.
I have hired a 125 to practice on between now and then, it's helping with my road confidence and I had a good ride earlier today but an oncoming truck did beep at me as I was set up to take a right side road, I thought I was in the right place but maybe not? Or maybe he was just making sure I'd seen him. I don't know, I just want to be first of all safe in the road and second... Pass my test :)
I just wondered if anyone knows of any good resources? Maybe videos or online literature that covers right turn into side roads that I could check out?

    Many thanks in advance
    Ellz

Listen to your Instructor and follow their guidance.

When you take part two the DSA examiner will be looking for a confident and above all a safe ride where you minimise your exposure to danger.

Remember Mirror, Signal, Position, Speed, Look - this is the system of actions to follow whenever you encounter any hazard. The hazard is anything that has the potential to harm you

The beep from the HGV sort of indicates that he did not know what you were going to do, analyse your actions.

Do not hug the kerb, position you bike safely at all times and do all the actions in plenty of time.

Use your mirrors, and when turning right DO NOT forget the lifesaver look behind.

The Police use a system that has been adapted by the IAM who do advanced motorcycle training as well as the same for cars. The Police book on advanced riding is called Roadcraft and is in all WHSmith shops, I suggest that you buy it just make sure its the motorcycle version, this book will help with positioning and observation. For now ignore their system as it is different to the mspsl I mentioned earlier.

Bye the way I am an IAM Observer and ex driving instructor.

Good luck, let us know how things go

    Col
