I thought I had already joined this forum back in 2014 when I bought my Sprint ST1050. Maybe I didn't, maybe it was another rival forum on the dark side. Anyway shows how much I logged in. I still have my Sprint 1050. It's still doing very well. It is a dark blue '08 model. Still got relatively few miles on it as I have other bikes that I ride. In all my time of ownership it has been great hasn't let me down or failed once. Now on 14k miles. I do all the servicing having had a very bad experience with the dealer who sold it to me. Basically it had never been serviced as far as I could tell. Coolant was like tea, the oil like chocolate and there were lots of leaves, rubbish, spiders etc in the air box. The air filter was filthy. Any way since then I have serviced each year without fail and it has run smoothly and faultlessly ever since. Oh except the right side folding mirror hinge failed several years ago and I have had to tape it up so it doesnt' flail around in the wind as I ride and obviously be dangerous and be an MOT failure. At the time my local dealer wanted £190 + VAT to just supply a new one and a further £60 + VAT on top to fit it. Highway robbers. So I found a very nice second hand one to fit on Ebay. I also just bought a mint black 2018 Speed Triple 1050 RS with only 1k miles on it, loaded with extras and why I am joining again for a second time. The sticky on the Speed forum with all owners problems is not encouraging. I hope mine will be a good one. Triumph make the best triple engines imho.
E.C.Ewe Welcome back or welcome whatever nice to have you in the family. Co hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and show of the bikes. Joe.
Welcome back (maybe), @E.C.Ewe. Sounds like you saved that Sprint from the junk heap. I'll bet that's why it now take such good care of you (well, except for the mirror). I have a 2019 Speed Triple RS and have had no issues with it at all. Well, I did get the new quick shifter arm based on that issue being discussed here on the forum although I'd had no problems with it. And still never have. I would go into ownership with much confidence. And enjoyment!
Thank you all for the warm welcomes back. Sprint 1050 still in fine fettle. Just done an oil and filler change. No brake fluid or coolant change this year. Brakes are really good. I put EBC sintered pads in a few years ago. My new to me 2018 Speed Triple RS less so. Great difficulty getting it into neutral. QS not working. Took it to my local Triumph dealer as I bought it from a Triumph dealer further afield unseen. The local Triumph dealer adjusted the clutch so can at least get neutral a lot more easily now. Don't have to turn the bike off to get neutral! QS still not 100%. The clutch cable still feels a little creaky especially when releasing. I think the inner cable needs lubricating. Now dealing with the Triumph dealer I bought it from as my local dealer says there is no record of any servicing being done on it under Triumph's dealer service history, zilch, no details of fluid changes and yet the Triumph dealer I bought it from promised me a service would be done prior to delivery. I expressly asked that ALL fluids were changed and filters. They declined to give me any documentation for the service ie a service invoice with no payment needed, just just gave a stamp in the service book which means nothing. Just a tick box exercise. I don't believe they did anything. If you want something done, then do it yourself. The keyless key fob brushed metal casing is also damaged, several deep scratches across it and it looks like it has been ridden/driven over as small dents in it although it still works. And the flyscreen was scratched so I already got another one of those for £63. So much for a Triumph Approved Used bike "Peace of Mind". Not impressed.
Hi there! Welcome back to the forum! It's a shame that your mechanic's shop is obviously ripping you off.
