I'm feeling like I need some lower and possibly wider bars. I want to keep them chrome so possibly going for the Biltwell Tracker mid bars. They don't have threads for bar end weights so I guess I'll need some new, closed end grips. Is there anything else I'll need to consider? I'm guessing cable & brake hoses will probably be fine without shortening.

    Just some things to consider.

Lower bars shouldn’t need cable or brake hose changes but wider bars might. :p

I have changed many bars on different bikes over the years and perhaps the most annoying thing is when you fit non-standard bars that do not make allowances for the switchgear lugs. I’ve ended up filing the plastic lugs off but this can result in less secure switchgear. The plus side is cheaper bars and more choice.

Thanks @Geoff Butler I didn't think of switch gear lugs. I guess I could drill the bars or maybe try to wedge in some rubber.
I've never changed bars on a motorbike, I've been a mountain biker the last 20 years and that's simple, just fit Renthals 780mm and in 10 minutes it's done

I put lower bars on my SE. Changing bars can be a bit of a pain sometimes, I didn't need to change any cables or hoses but did drill the bars for the switchgear lugs. You have to be careful drilling to ensure you get the switchgear in the right rotational position. I prefer the lower bars a lot over the standard ones, much nice riding position, I have LSL low superbike bars but am tempted to fit some straight ones at some point.
