    Folks.

After reading lots of posts t on 1050 Tiger charging issues I have something to add to this topic- info that I could not find on line. Hopefully this info will do two things:
    1. help someone out who is still scratching their head about poor charging after replacing stator and voltage regulator and battery
    2. find me an answer man/woman who can tell me why this failure happened- keep reading and see my pics

My 2007 Tiger 1050 w/17K miles is a two owner bike (less myself). Former owner is my neighbor, he put 10K miles on it. Guy before him 7K miles. My neighbor admitted to laying this bike down in front of a car. He was unscathed, he cleaned the bike back up and then left it parked in his garage as he was done riding after that. I bought it, (replacing a Suzuki 650 V-Strom) and started riding it and lost the battery right away. I replaced it with the recommended Yuasa battery, it too would not stay charged. I checked and the bike was not putting out enough voltage. After much research on this site and others, I purchased and installed a new Moffset Voltage Regulator from RM Stator (Canada). It helped a little. Next I replaced the stator with new one from RM Stator (Canada) and no change, still not enough voltage to charge a battery. I went back to my neighbor, a BMW Auto Master Tech (heh hem) and he said only thing it could be is the stator motor housing itself. I bought one used off e-bay for $280 USD (vs. $920 new USD) and he installed it for me and I am now producing 14.4 volts. So yes I have a happy ending - BUT- how did this failure happen?
For you motorheads still reading please take a hard look at these pics and tell me what the $%^& happened. It looks like the stator moved inside of the stator motor housing. But when I took the bolts off of the stator to change it they were tight. So far the bike is keeping the battery charged up - but for how long- could this kind of failure occur a second time? Can't imagine the crank end suffered any kind of damage on a lay down that scuffed a bikes plastics? Would love to hear your theories/experiences. Cheers. Stator Cover.JPG Stator and Cover.JPG
