Salt Damage To Barrels

I have a 2015 BonnevilleT100 which is well used most of the year round. I have recently been cleaning it up and I thought the only damage was to the exhaust hangers and the front mudguard stay. However I found loose paint on the barrels and underneath was an area quite bad with salt corrosion. I have cleaned it off the best I can with a view to buying a decent heat resistant paint.
How do I treat the salt covered area so It doesn't come back through the paint and what is the paint? I cant decide if its gloss black or satin gloss?
