My mate suggests that both he and I have picked up some nasty habits over our many years of motorcycling. He has suggested that we enrol on a Safe and Skilled riding course.

I'm not sure wether such a course would be of value. What do you folks think? I'm prepared to keep an open mind.

My last riding course was over 45 years ago whilst serving in the army. That course was six weeks long and covered both road and off road riding.

Check out the qualifications of those involved in the course and also the sylabus.

The Police do run short assessment courses which are free, check out via the road safety officer.

ROSPA and The IAM do similar courses, I have been with the IAM for years and can recommend their course

Buy the Police Rider Handbook, Roadcraft that will be a good self learning starter.

    PM me for more info

    Thanks for the info Col.

We have had days out with the local motorcycle police and their advice has been invaluable. However due to financial cutbacks they seem to have curtailed these runs.

I will seek out the book you mentioned.

You can usually learn a thing or two from any course no matter how much experience you've got.
I did the IAM a couple of years ago and I recommend it.I t's also good to keep up with current thinking, things and idea's change over the years.

Extra training is never a waste.

We all pick up bad habits over the years and need a bit of a kick up the bum now and again

See if there's a Bikesafe course in your area for a one day refresher then think about further training if you enjoy it.
