Not having much luck, went out for a short ride and to put some petrol in the bike as the gauge showed on the red, the bike is running very rough at low revs, if you give it some throttle it picks up but at low speed it hunts terribly.
I don't think the bike has been run for quite a while as the last poor owner died of cancer so it may have been garaged up for a long while, the tyre pressures were very low too, which seems to indicate the above.
I though some new fuel and a run might cure it but no.
I have a guy down the road from me called the motorbike doctor (sussex) I will run it down to him next week and see what he says, hopefully it just needs the throttle bodies set up. as it has a full service history and the last owner was a engineer and kept the bike immaculate.

May also check the air filter and fit a K&N if it doesn't have one
Unless anyone has any other ideas before I have to spend money at a garage.

mmmm never heard of that stuff before. I use petrolmagic or redex. They use seafoam in the USA with seemingly good results.

if the fuel was that low the chances are you have sucked up the crap from the bottom of the tank as well as the throttle bodies being crudded and gummed up. leave the cleaner stuff in the tank overnight to soak thru and try again, you may also need to clean the fuel filter/s out. As for K and N filters,I tend to agree with Dozers dad,Triumph used their r and d team to make the bikes as efficient as possible, sometimes better to leave alone.

Check all pipes are not cracked or split from tank

The OP doesn't say but I'm assuming it's a 955i in which case the tickover is controlled by a stepper motor and rough tickover is a solid sign of this part needing replacement. Costs about £50 + vat.
