Hi Folks Currently in the process of replacing the lower headstock bearing on my Legend, ( I am getting the yoke bead blasted and powder coated) but looked at the prices, WOW! they are expensive. Part number 3: PFKL2040801 BRNG,TAPER ROLLER-30 X 55 X 17 £ 16.55 Now i have typed in the sizes into ebay and looked what happened: Taper Roller Bearing - 32006 - 30 x 55 x 17 - New £3.45 Is it worth taking a punt? Tommy.
Hi Tommy, never, ever, buy bearings from a bike manufacturer. They don't make 'em, they just buy them in - so why don't you? Do make sure the new bearing is really well loaded with grease prior to install, or you'll be back here again soon
Mate, so long as the aftermarket bearing comes from a reputable manufacturer it will be equally as good as the Triumph part.
same with anything that uses bearings, bikes cars, whatever. I was in the printing industry for many years and I got my company an account at the local bearing company, saved a fortune on roller bearings which had a hard life. As biglad says, they are exactly the same as long as they are from a reputable supplier, not so sure i would buy cheap on ebay tho.
Totally agree with what the lads have said. Go for the genuine known brands SKF etc. A good reputable bearing stockist will advise, show them or give them all the engraved details on the original bearing. Stay well clear of cheap unbranded imports made from 'monkey metal' On a job like this fit the best, firstly you want it to be right and safe, secondly your labour time, not a 2 minute job to replace those bearings. Good luck and keep us informed
