Had a few items powder coated last month but decided it was the wrong move !!

How do you remove ? Paint stripper is rubbish these days now all the good stuff has been removed..

Read you can burn it off, in a normal oven at 230 degrees.

I want to avoid scraping off and scratching the alloy..

I'm more with DD on this one, though sand blasting is probably a little harsh on alloy and can make polishing difficult, you would be better off with soda blasting in my opinion, I cant see oven/heat working but stand to be corrected.

Heat it up, it'll soon melt / burn off with a gas gun.

You will of course be left with a horrible looking piece of metal afterwards, but could it be polished, or get it anodised?

Is it just the colour that you don't like ?
If that is the case just powder coat over the top in your chosen colour, it will obviously add another thickness of paint, but that shouldn't be an issue if you mask off any areas that will be adversely affected, put bolts in threads etc.

Had my vfr 400 wheels acid dipped to remove a very thick coating of powder coat.
Dustless blasting will also remove the coating, without damaging the wheels.

Hi, regarding your power coating, "easy answer" as most of the advice so far won't work that well. here goes.Take it back the the coater and hopefully they should have a water base heated strip tank or if you don't want to do this look on ebay and search for starchem paint remover this will do the job but be very careful it is powerful stuff. Powder coating will need around 300c before it will start to burn off and by doing this your risk damaging the parts. bead blasting will take forever to do, grit blasting will damage the parts, Acid dipping will ingress into porous alloy and may give you problems later on.

How do I know? I run a powder coating business and I am not on here to push my business, just advise on the right action to follow.

    Hope this helps.

Well, bought a bottle of the above off eBay and it must have taken all of 10 minutes to strip the parts back to original, the powder coat just fell off.

    Thanks Trevor..
