Nice find roadrider. likewise i don't really need them but nice to have them! torn between these and the SW Motech that richard h was using. also quite liking the additional twin lamps in that pic!

 

I did tour for a while on my Speed, buying blaze panniers and using dry bags but admitted defeat in the end. My Tiger 800 XC is much better at carrying gear and doing distance, it's just not as exciting to ride as the Speed. In an ideal world we would have a garage with 3 or 4 bikes to suit all occasions.

 

Im a hard luggage guy.

You can lock it and leave the bike and be assured that its still there when you get back.

 

If its the Triumph OE panniers and top box your talking about Col then yes its more secure but not completely: was shocked to find my wife's 2012 Street Triple key undid all my Tiger panniers and top box! Wonder how many other Triumph owners can also undo my locks??

 

Noted Richard but at least with hard luggage someone cannot unsip the soft luggage and walk off with the contents.

 

Yes, I agree with Col. Hard luggage for me as well. Unfortunately the Triumph hard luggage I've used is not terribly secure. I discovered on my Tiger 1050 panniers that if you pressed hard enough on top of the pannier where the lid joins the body you can spring the locks. I don't know about other Triumph panniers but the Tiger ones were actually quite small as they have a double skin which reduces the capacity.

 

Blimey Richard that is a revelation. I will have to check my locks and possibly fit extra ones.

 

The ones that come standard with the 800 and 1200 Tiger are quite big and reasonably sturdy, my biggest complaint would be the empty weight of them, the top box particularly is seriously weighty and I try to only put light stuff in there as it makes a top heavy bike even more so. Knowing what I do now I may have gone to a quality aftermarket type
