Hi all, a return to the tyre issue. I commented last June about my new purchase the speed triple R and the disappointment that the dealer had changed the tyres for new from supercorsa to maxis sports. These tyres are great so far no problem's but after some bed time reading of the hand book states the following. Use the recommended tyres only in the above combination given, which are pirelli, metzeler, bridgestone, and Michelin. Their is a few more choice s for the standard speed.
My concerns are by fitting another manufacturer ie maxis, will this effect warranty or insurance claims if unfortunately you were to have a accident. I also have pressure sensors fitted so I guess these tyres must be capatable and were fitted by a triumph dealership, its the small print, but in bold WARNING
that as just bit me in the ass and feel a tad unsettled. Comments please.

You will have to check with insurance company and dealer, I'm sure if tyres are compatable it can't be a prob. When I had my bike serviced at a dealers and the rear tyre beaded changing, the recommended tyre was no longer available so they put on the "new recommended" tyre. How long ago was the hand book written?

Hi Crispey, thanks for the reply the hand book is the standard issue with the bike so 2012. I guess the word approved is very much like recommending to use genuine parts, but tyres are your anchor to the road and are linked to legal issues if involved in a incident, unlike if you use a none genuine water pump and so on. Could this be over looked by many and naturally just buy the best every time unlike on this occasion I had no choice as the bike was delivered. I personally would of put the supefcorsas on due to having pvm wheels and suit the bike. I wish I had spoken up on the day but I thought I would try them and after researching found the reviews were very good, and they are in deed its just the word WARNING.

Well, I'd contact the insurance company, tell them they were dealer( I assume Triumph) fitted, if they say it's a mod and charge extra either pay it or go back to the dealer and get em changed or if they say not allowed, take em back to dealer. You've not had it 3 months so if they have fitted a non approved part they should replace it. IMO

I suspect a Hornest's nest is being created here without much legal base.

It's a bit like saying that Triumphs recommended oil brand is X, but everyone knows that you can put in your brand of choice - so long as it meets Triumphs specs .

I think it HIGHLY unlikely that an Insurer could renege on a payout due to non-recommended Brand of tyres, without substantial justification - like fitting fully off-road tyres on a std. Bonny for example.

Just be sensible about this stuff and if you are in any doubt, verify with your insurer. Just be careful how you phrase your question - the issue is tyre brand, not tyre type or spec. And of course do it by e-mail so you have a copy of your question and their response.

That sounds like good advice Big lad.
It's amazing when you contact companies how many times you are given information by a spotty faced teenager reading from a computer screen script.
