    Guys
Bought a lovely low-mileage 2010 Scrambler in January and decided to have a centre stand fitted. The bike has now been with a reputable Triumph dealer to upgrade the shocks. I want extendable as I have a 36” inside leg (hence Daddy Long Legs), so the higher the better. I also want them to be black to match the bike. I opted for the (rather pricey) K-Tech Razor Lite IIIs but received a call to say that these couldn’t be fitted as the chain now hits the centre stand when it is up. Did I want to keep the stand?, they asked. So I’m back to the originals, still want to upgrade but don’t want to lose the stand. Although higher would be nice, I could put up with the same height as standard (but not shorter). Any other Scrambler owners out there, with a centre stand fitted, who have been able to upgrade their shocks? If so, which ones?
    Cheers,
    DLL

Hi Steve, thanks for the quick response.
I can't say that I'm overly familiar with how the stand stops itself (and whether it's possible to get it to stop lower and clear the chain). I'll have a nose around underneath when I get it back from the garage. I take on board your idea about taking it off altogether but it does have its uses in tight spaces central London if I don't want to park it leaning right over. I'm reluctant to take it off (I've only had it on 5 months!) but can't believe there isn't a way to upgrade the shocks without going shorter or removing the stand.
    All the best, DLL.

Hi DLL, just a thought but if you lengthen the shocks on your bike you may run into the same problem I had - with the longer shocks when I put the bike on the centre stand the rear wheel was still on the ground, rather than lifted clear.

Biglad's right again! I put longer Scrambler shocks on the Bonnie, which meant that the rear wheel was still on the ground - thus defeating the object of a centre stand when it comes to chain maintenance. I removed mine as it fouled the new silencers I fitted - but it would be possible to make up a new stop to prevent this happening. As it weighs 2.5kg though I decided to live without it.

I whipped mine off as well Steve. It was the weight of the thing that convinced me - as you know I'm very motivated about losing weight on the bike. ;)

I find that a paddock stand works far better for maintenance work and you don't have to carry it all the time.

Thanks guys - I only registered yesterday and really didn't expect so much helpful advice so quickly. Glad I did now. As they're well known for customising Triumphs, you'd have thought my dealer would have picked up on all of this before fitting the Razor Lites and giving me the call.
It's clear where the wind of opinion is blowing re the stand but (and please humour me here), what if I wanted some better quality black shocks that are the same length as the standard ones (enabling me to have the best of both worlds)? Surely this is possible and, if so, can anyone recommend any?
I can see there's good reasons for getting rid but the centre stand does have its uses, especially when parking in central London. Usually can't fit a fag paper between bikes so being able to park upright is a bonus.
    Kind regards all, DLL.
