Just treated myself to a Gerbing heated jacket and several of my ‘user’ bikes have heated grips already. I’m tempted to fit either a volt meter or a ammeter. They both do a different job. Voltmeter tells you about your battery whilst an ammeter tells you about your alternator charging which would’ve more important in my mind.
Has anyone fitted either in conjunction to using heated clothing on their tourer?

Given your scenario, then current is of more importance but coudn't you just do a couple of snapshots to satify your curiosity using a clamp meter?

Why would you need a permanent installation?

Your probably right although there’s more accessories to run all at the same time and it could get thirsty

I usually fit a voltmeter rather than amp as it will tell you not only the ancillary drain on the system while running it also tells you if you charging is correct when under load or no load and if you have trouble with starting it will tell you if your battery is going down the pan.

I've just bought three of these - custom configured for specific applications :-

    http://www.sparkbright.co.uk/sparkright-eclipse-battery-voltage-monitor.php

In effect they will give indications of charging system and battery health. They should be fairly discreet in appearance, low drain and can be used to 'simulate' a vehicle alarm in a non-op. state whilst simultaneously indicating battery voltage status. The guy that runs the company is incredibly helpful and it has been a delight dealing with him. I haven't fitted them yet (they're intended for 2 Street Triples and one of my T3's) but they look the business and were very inexpensive relative to their appearance, quality and functionality.

    Wholeheartedly recommended!
