When I were a lad, we would wind lead wire or even solder round the spoke nipples in the appropriate area, when needed. Not exactly 'factory', but it worked!!

Hi Steve. Yes we did the same but I was trying to be posh :D. I have a wobbly front end and wanted to check out the balance. I don't have access to a place to service so have to be independent thus the interest in the simple balancing kit.

If you can remove the front wheel and then put a thin bar through it to act as an axle - place the open ends of the temporary axle on something at both sides, ensuring the axle is perfectly level and the wheel is free to spin. Now you can check the balance of the wheel.

Now to achieve balance you will need to attach something to either the rim or the spokes at the rim end. Solder is probably your best bet.

    Good luck and keep travelling..................

Sorry, Bob! I hadn't realised you wanted to do 'posh'!!:D

As for your wobbly front end, well if you want personal, as well as posh, then my front end is also wobbly, which I attribute to too many cakes and pies and chips and bacon butties etc. However, I find that tightening my belt an extra notch seems to help with keeping it all under control!! :p:D

    Sometimes!! :(

Now I feel I must apologise for the above whilst blaming, as per usual, the voices!!!:eek::eek::oops::(
