I am looking for a video of someone repairing or doing shims exhange and regapping on a TT600 or speed four. I have a major concern that Triumph may have screwed up big time and they do not want to admit to it. Owing to this mistake being over 13 years ago. I bought a bike that was to be a runner but was not. After 2 weeks of investigation turns out the engine is stuffed. IE no compression on cylinder 1, Clutch lever side - adjacent Alternator side. This is confirmed via the TT600 and speed four manuals. What my concern is:- TDC is up on cylinder 1 + 4. This is confirmed at the crank where the arow sits in the poistion of a split on the case line. IE facing forward to the fron tof the bike horizontal. Then here comes the major point. Whic direction should the cams be. Rabbit ears up or down. From my experience as a part time mechanic. Rabbits ears up. Cam sprockets are lined up facing inwards to each other In---> <--- EX as per the sprockets. with crank facing ------> ... This is perfect setup. as per manual. Well wh would my cams on cylinder 1 be facing down...??? Cams cannot be located in wrong can journals, nor can the sprockets be located on wrong cams as the timing marks will not work at all. The sprockets cannot be out by 180 degrees as the bolts will not line up at all to the cams itself. I can upload a video to prove my case if people wish to see the evidence. The bike will run in 180 degree out but for correctness. I cannot for the life of me get this dam rabbits ears up whilst TDC is up on cylinder 1 +4 and get timing marks facing each other. PLEASE PLEASE i am BEGGING for pics and videos proving what I have to be wrong......and that some spanner may have provided me with a duff bike with wrong cams all round but from what I have seen 2 cams can be used but are clearly marker with a groove on 1 cam and the other with a smooth cam clearly marking 1 being inlet and the other exhaust cam. so no confusion their. I can time everything up and right if I have timing markers as followes... Sprockets as laid out for correct timing rabbits ears up. <-----NI XE-----> (Back to front 180 degrees correct - this is what you will see as per sprockets) Rabbit ears down should triumph cortrect timing: IN---> <---EX (correct facing on sprockets for timing marks for 180 degrees out)
have you looked here? I don't know if it helps but its all I could find. Shame the pics have gone. You could try pm'ing him and seeing if he can help
i think this web page4 shows the exact same thing as per your like that you very kindly provided. If you follow my link which I think is the very same one but on anther page. His engine is also 180 degrees out. Showing the vert same problem I am trying to explain. If this is the case with all TT and speed four. Triumph is wrong... They will refuse to correct the issue. Meaning the timing setup will affect full performance of our wonderful machine. http://zimmerframeracing.com/tt_valves.htm
Step one. notice full timing correct.. First, the cam sprocket marks - lined up nicely. Lets put it back together shall we.. Quote"" (I needed to make sure I was at TDC before putting the cams back in. In the picture above, you will notice a hole above the crank where you can see the actual rod, complete with "Triumph" logo embossed. That's one way to check for TDC (1 and 4 rise and fall together), but after consultation with a friend of mine who knows more about this stuff and who was exceptionally patient and helpful with my many questions, I went with the low-tech method of stickin' a straw down the No. 1 hole moving the engine back and forth to find the highest point. I used one from a Circle K Polar Pop - at 75 cents for a New-York-City-taxable-sized jug o' soda, they're the best deal going. And they come with reeeely long straws. And unlike screwdrivers, straws won't scratch the piston.) ******************************************************************************************** Please notice the very last picture. What is wrong with the cam setup if cylinder 1 is at TDC. CAM LOBES are facing DOWN.....! Not UP.!!!!! This is not right and 180 degrees out.... This is the same as my bike and is very very wrong. The injectors are firing when valves are CLOSED. Unless cylinder 1 is in fact right next to the sprockets and not the other side of the engine being the furthest one away. In the triumph BIBLE the also even stat that cylinder 1 is adjacent to the alternator. IE left side of the bike being clutch LEVER side or when you sit on your machine next to your left knee cap. Again please tell me if i am wrong. According to what i am seeing and many phone calls to triumph they refuse to research into a major problem that is plaguing my machine and very possibly all TT600 and maybe SPEED FOUR'S... Please confirm my findings anyone please....!!!!!!!!!!! Videos are more hard evidence to work with than photos. why, pictures only show whats in front but positions can be changed in the motor to make it look correct after turning motor 180. I can upload my video proving my case even further.... Thank you all.
thank you for your replies. All i was wanting is someone to upload their photos of the bikes timiing marks both bottom and cam lobe positions. that is all i ask for. Triumphrat net keeps locking me out and password will not reset so i gave up on them. however the photos above is actually from triumphrat.net and that is where the problem comes from. That bikle is also out by 180 degrees which i have tried to explain. So if anypone can be bothered to photo their timing marks both crank and cam lobe position at the same time, it would be AWSOME..... pls can you help...thank you
okay i am making a crappie video proving my case. may i upload it here or attach a link.... when its done uploading.?
