The April edition of Ride has a good review on tyres, it's worth a read. I'll post an image of the intro here, not sure how easy it will be to read though...

In cold wet weather the OE tyres simply won't be as good as those mentioned here, that's reasonable. But it occurs to me that you could fit these and get along fine with them through the summer as well. Not the case if you plan on a track day necessarily, depending on how hard you push, but for the road I think they're fine.

I fitted Pirelli Angel GTs (as used on the standard Thrux) on my Thrux R because the original Corsas were shot after just over 3000 miles. I decided to go with tyres Triumph recommended/tested for now until a few others had been the guinea pigs and tried others. I find them a little safer in the wet and absolutely fine in the dry. I never do track days, and I put myself in the average nutter bracket. Note sure the rear will last more than 4500 miles though which is a bit disappointing.

I've had the Michelin Pilot Road 4s on my FZR1000 (and the older Road 2s) and I found them superb too. Lasted 10k or so. I might try them on the Thrux next time round which is going to be soon.

I never really felt confident on the OE Pirellis, but luckily they didn't last that long forcing me to lighten my wallet on a pair of Metz Roadtech 01's.

Cant speak for the longevity of them (yet) but delighted with the confidence inspiring ride & feel they offer.

That was a solid choice. I think they stick these exotic track focused tyres on so that the journo's can go nuts in Spain (which is where they always seem to be for a bike launch) on some circuit or another and then write glowing reports about how they rode. Whereas the reality for us, particularly UK buyers, is completely different. Not forgetting deals done between manufacturers of course...

Truth is Jason, I'm no racer & in the wet, I tone it down an awful lot and keep it smooth (rather than brave), but I was really impressed with them in the lashing rain. Honestly I think theyre the best tyres Ive ever had & will certainly recommend them - but cant say how long they'll last (only had 'em on around 1,500 miles).

BTW, The visor Shop had them on a deal a few weeks ago (£212 posted I think).

I recently replaced the Pirelli Corsa’s with Angle GT’s and can report great is all weather + more than double the expected life of the Russo’s.

Angel GT's are awesome tyres. Great handling in the dry, and brilliant in the wet. I absolutely loved them on my K7 GSX-R 750. Got great mileage out of them and wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. I disliked the PR3's cos I just felt like I could feel them moving around in the dry, (all those little cuts / sips are not good IMHO). My mate will run nothing else on his GSX1400.

When I've killed the Michelin RS's on my Tuono (another excellent tyre, way better in the damp than they should be) I will probably go for Angel GT's.

I caned the gixxer for 50 odd miles heading south to Ullapool in torrential rain, leaving a couple of boys on Speed Triple's who are quicker riders than me. I nearly had my knee down !!! The rain was sat on the road and rivers running across it. Best days riding in the rain I ever had. Best 'accessory' I have ever bought for a bike.

Opinions on tyres, are like arseholes - everyone's got one :p

    This is just mine:cool:

cheers , for the link on the tyre deal:):) just been down to tescos and had a good read that the ride report done and the metzeler o1 came out on top , pilot 5 came second and they class them as a sport touring tyre so thats all good in my eyes
the oem tyres and with the weather we have and the days of shitty cold /damp weather and not having a good feeling i might as well pull the plug and buy something that i feel happy with and copes with more situations more of the time .i am not one of the sort of people that if its raining i wont go out or its to cold etc and put barriers in the way ,i am just so glad to be able to get back to riding
so metzeler 01 or michelin pilot 5 at least it narrowed it down to 2 :grinning::grinning:

I'm about to get Bridgestone T31's put on my GSX. They tied with Road 5's in the Ride report. I daresay that at some point the Trumpet will get a pair from this range of tyres.

Edit: got the tyres fitted today. They actually feel sticky when you ride, completely different to the S21 Hypersport in current conditions. Very good to ride on, improved the ride quality too. Opted for some right angle valves which is going to save a nuisance as well.
