Never actually seen one of these. Only in pictures. Here in California, as well as the rest of the US we are stuck.with the state issued piece of tin made.by the state where you live. Must be government issue or you get cited. They are real fussy about that. The pedestrian slicer would only be for decoration. ...J.D.
See the History section of this Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom EDIT Meriden would have been allocated Warwickshire registration marks. For example Steve McQueen's ISDT Trophy was BNX 822B, where NX = Warwickshire and the B suffix = 1964 the 1949 Montlhéry Thunderbirds had JAC registrations (JAC 769, JAC 770, JAC 771) - AC was issued in Warwickshire. See the Pre-2001 codes and Year Identifiers sections on the Wiki page.
Just look at where Steve McQueen’s front number plate is fitted to keep the rider safe from slicing himself open... let alone pedestrians... this fitting is OK... but again, please not on the mudguard despite the retro appeal
Ok great, I did it correctly. I hope to have it done by Tuesday and i'll post a pic. I couldn't come up with something so I went with the one attached. I assume it is referencing it's a Bonneville with 865 cc. I just wish it was embossed liked a real plate
The rule for bikes, not that it was really enforced, was that it should be displayed on the left-hand side and forward of the seat. Depends on whether you want authentic for the UK, or translated from English to American.
I am circling back to this pedestrian slicer topic. I ordered one and put on stickers as numbers but feel dissatisfied with it. I am looking for more authenticity. I assume these were aluminum embossed plates, is that the case? If so where can I get something as close to the original?
I personally like the look of it on some bikes -like the one in the photo (yours?). The danger aspect seems like a non-issue to me -we rarely hear of motorcycles hitting pedestrians here in the states and when they do I'm not sure how much difference a small tin or aluminum plate would make. Anyway, they need to keep their arses out of the road.
Check out Frampton's Number plates from Jepson. http://www.framptonsplates.com/BikePlates.html Be a real rebel and mount it "rocker" style. Here is a pic on mine for reference.
Yes excellent pic of your bike and where to show off real rocker style!... looks better and much safer place but not so good for traffic radar guns
