I changed the oil & filter a couple of weeks ago, I've been out on it a few times since then, but today after a bike run I noticed the left side belly pan had a film of oil on it, couldn't see any obvious leak, although the oil filter had some oil on it. normally when I change the oil filter I just tighten it by hand but this time I noticed the manual say tighten to 10 nm so I did that. Do you think I should change the oil again and put a new filter on and just tighten by hand?

when I tightened it with the torque wrench it seemed to be a lot tighter than what it would be if I tightened by hand?..mind you I didn't have my specs on at the time,so maybe it was more than 10:confounded:

Do you fill the filter with oil before installing it? I do and the last time I changed the filter I got a bit of oil in the recess outside the rubber seal and consequently had a bit of oil mist on the filter for a while afterwards. I also used a torque wrench to tighten it up. Been dry lately tho.

yes filled the filter up with oil,I'm just wondering if I tightened it too much if I could have damaged the seal? and that's how it's leaking, I'm sure the torque wrench was set to 10nm but maybe it was set at more:confused: the left belly pan was pretty much covered in a thick film of oil

Prolly best to take the filter off and check the seal, if in doubt, new filter.

Check that theres only one o ring in there and the last one off the previous filter didnt stick to the sump, then reuse the new oil.

I decided to have a run up to Braemar to get the new tyres scrubbed in,it wasn't handling right so had a look and that's when I saw the forks covered in oil..just a coincidence it was after I changed the oil I guess

It's got just under 18k don't know if that's early or not? just as well it happened now though as I'm hoping to have a last minute weeks touring in Ireland with @andyc1 just as soon as the forecast looks fine

On my first set of Ohlins (about 11k so far) but had numerous bikes previously with 30-40k + without problem.
    Enjoy the ride.

If all they do is replace fork seal, it won't change your settings

yeah I've always just tightened them by hand, the speed triple is the only bike I've had which says to tighten it to a specific torque
