So I just done a three day Devon run, riding 8+ hours a day, there and back on motorways. I'm getting really severe numbness in my right hand, so much so I need to slow every 20 miles to release hand and let circulation flow. Suspect this is down to me being way too tense as I get a pain in my shoulder. I've fitted heated grips and bar risers which have helped a tad Any tips chaps. Got so bad I'm looking at a BMW R1250RS, but recon I'm the problem not my Street Twin
I bought one of these last year as my fingers were always going numb, It just clips on the throttle and It makes a lot of difference to just use the palm of the hand to accelerate on long journeys. It definitely works for me and I'ts only a few quid. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oxford-M...933877&hash=item3b1a49abce:g:Mr4AAOSw69lbinvB other makes are available.
I was always told if you still get wood you’re good, so recon there’s a few more miles in the old fella yet
I get the same problem on my mountain bike, thick padded gloves work for that, but I can't find a cure for my exercise bike, apart from keep taking my hands off the bars, which isn't a problem cos it's not gonna hit anything.
I've been getting some numbness too and I'm not riding for that long but then my hands got vibration damage some years ago. However I saw this video a couple of weeks ago and I have wondered whether the loose play in the throttle has something to do with the vibration which doesn't seem to cause the same symtoms in my left hand. I've also wondered whether I'm squeezing the grip unnecessarily hard and try to check now and then that my arms are loose at least and I'm gripping with my knees. The spacer kit is on my list of jobs to do. I haven't found any for sale in the UK yet. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-...029161?hash=item23a3fb94a9:g:HsAAAOSwF7lbMQGe
I have been riding for 30+ years and have the same issue when I go on long rides. It is just the nature of the animal. I just pull over and rest/stretch every so often and it helps. So it is not you, just motorcycle riding !! I do use a cramp buster on my throttle hand and it helps. Pretty cheap too.
Repooh, I don't know what bike you ride but check to see if these grips fit your bike. I've used these and had the left grip with the throttle boss on it and love, love, loved them! I don't currently have them on my touring bike but will probably get them again. https://www.jpcycles.com/product/500-153/kuryakyn-iso-grip-set-with-throttle-boss That said, I agree with the posts on this thread about cruise control and/or the throttle boss / throttle rocker. Those can often help quite a lot. One other thought--it might be carpal tunnel syndrome. I had that problem in my left hand and had a cortisone injection about three or so years which has staved off surgery. The initial numbness I had that was fixed with that injection is starting to come back but mostly on my bicycle. Might be worth checking into.
