I feel bad, tried to be Good Samaritan, but looks like I’m not helping...

Long story short, I read a compelling story about helping the air ambulance get funding from gov.
I posted it here after signing a government petition in that effect...

    2 things went awry,

1). I hadn’t written it well enough for people to realise it wasn’t my family directly involved. I love the fact that people on here are ready with their support... but it wasn’t my family who need it... I will pass on my regards for you. Sorry.

2). A forum member has pointed out that the action may be against what Air Ambulances actually want. Now I’ve supported them through charity gigs etc for a while... but never thought they wouldn’t be seeking government funding of some form or another... but it seems that is kinda the case! I would much rather My hard earned money taken in taxes was spent on this charity than some of the rubbish they get spent on.

So despite my best intentions, I’ve ballsed up on two counts... sorry again. Now I can’t remove this thread... so like an erection in a nudist camp... I’m sticking out In the open like a right dick!
Sorry for the well intended, but erroneous post.

I have signed it. They do a great job, we replenish the Kent Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance blood stocks on a daily/nightly basis and you couldn't meet a nicer bunch of people.
My only concern with government funding is that it might then be government controlled and thus eligible for that government's cutbacks

Happy to sign this, I have unfortunately been a recipient of their services a few years ago and am eternally grateful for their expertise and skill at the scene of my accident.
Sadly I didn’t get to ride in the helicopter as an ambulance arrived soon after them, but without their speedy attendance and medical intervention I may well have lost my right arm.
The NW Air Ambulance Charity has long been a first choice for fund raising from my family, long before my need for them, and will remain so. Any effort to help their cause as well as all the other areas operating this service, is a great thing indeed.

Whilst I very much agree with the sentiment I have to agree with @crispey and indeed this is a quote from The Air Ambulance Services own website The Air Ambulance Service is funded entirely by donations as it neither receives nor seeks government, NHS or national lottery funding. It also helps to reduce the burden on the NHS and public purse by providing its vital services free of charge.

There is also a procedure in place for the air ambulance charities to apply for some government capital funding without coming under their regulations and therefore potential cost cutting measures.
    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/air-ambulance-capital-funding-how-to-apply

As the old saying goes, be very careful what you wish for. The Ghurkas are now very aware of this as after all the campaigning by Joanna Lumley they were no longer a cost effective part of the Army and Regiments were subjected to the same level of cuts and disbanding as the rest of the British Army ;);)

Governments get ALL of their money from us - whether in immediate taxes or our children’s taxes to repay the loans they took out today.

Governments are also grotesquely wasteful in a way private individuals, businesses and charities don’t know how to be. Sometimes we collectively spend less by charitable giving than by funding Westminster, Hollyrood, Capitol Hill or wherever.

At the core of this sad story is the fact that there IS an air ambulance. Now if it was Government funded it would be susceptible to cuts in a way it presently is not. Just look at how many expensive aircraft and crews have been cut from the RN, Army and RAF inventory......

Never be sorry when the intention was pure. And thanks for bringing it up. I still send my condolences to any Family in this sort of loss. Alought they may never read your topic but it may in some distant way find its way to someone needing the strength.
    God Bless And kind Regards
    Joe.
