Last week I thought my battery had died, so got a new one. Couple days later bike wouldn't start again. So I booked her in to have it seen too, as I now think I have a charging issue. I hooked the bike up to my optimate, and she'll start up happily now. The question is - on a full charge, will she start again a second time? I'd like to take it to work tomorrow, but it'd be a nuisance if I have to either push or jumpstart her going home?

No guarantee a new battery is fully charged when you buy it. Should be okay now you've given it a full charge.

It worked for four days, and then it wouldn't start again - so I reckon, when fully charged, I'd get at least two starts out of it? I just want to take it to work and back, and put it straight back onto the optimate when I get home.

That may have been when it was failing,
If its failed now, the battery will fail in a shorter time, between charges, this time round.

Get a new regulator rectifier from
    https://www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog/Application_List.html#triumph

I got a RR for my 2010 Speed Triple recently and they use higher grade wires at a larger guage which means less resistance = better voltage charge to the battery. The RR is also superior in how it handles the extra voltage meaning less stress on the stator

Let me know if you want more info

It's a new battery James, so I think I have a charging issue. Thing is, I couldn't book her in before Saturday next, and I'd like to ride to work. So the question is, when fully charged, do I get two starts out of the battery?

Have you done a multimeter accross the battery test?

    Ignition off & engine off - 12.6v to 12.8v
Ignition on engine off - around 12.4v
    Engine on tickover - 13.2v +
Engine above 3rpm - Up to 14v depending on wiring....I get 14.5v with the new rectifier

If you fully charge the battery, you are relying on that charge to start, keep the light on while you ride, start again for the return journey and get you home...then charge it again
Can you charge it at work?

If it isn't the RR then it would be the stator which is a big more involved

Can't charge it at work, but happily starts now when fully charged.

Yes I know what you mean, only your battery although new is working in a broken system atm and so may have been damaged.
Also in these new systems the battery is required to work all the time, not just starting like in the old days. So during your commute you are running a possibly damaged battery down for the whole journey.

That makes sense - I'll just have to take the car to work until it's fixed then.. bummer!
