Well I'm a bit behind in posting some of my earlier ride outs so it's about time I caught up.
This one was actually back on 23rd February and was a run from Stokesley to Flamborough Head via Helmsley and back via Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby.

The chalk cliffs at Flamborough Head.

This rock formation is known locally as "The drinking dinosaur" - you can see grey seals basking in the sun with more coming ashore all the time.

This is the modern lighthouse dating from 1806

and this is the old one dating from 1674, probably the oldest in the UK.

This was when we had really strong winds - the bikes had to be parking "head into the wind" even though they were sheltered behind the cafe building.

Next it's on to Robin Hoods Bay a picturesque old fishing village. Why the name Robin Hood's Bay? A quick Google reveals that: "Legend has it, Robin Hood encountered French pirates who came to pillage the fisherman's boats and the northeast coast. The pirates surrendered and Robin Hood returned the loot to the poor people in the village that is now called Robin Hood's Bay."

Whatever the truth - it's a nice place and a very popular tourist spot today.

The road down to the harbour.

A lot of the houses are holiday lets or second homes, which is becoming an issue for locals in places like this and even in Whitby. Many are empty for long periods, first time buyers can't afford to stay in the village and the place loses it's sense of community.

Must stop promoting the place - don't come to Yorkshire - it's shite! :D:D

Yes mate, getting to know my way around and enjoying the quiet (compared to the south) roads.
House is in a bit of a mess at the moment though! :joy::joy:

What fantastic photos and what a beautiful little village, Steve! It is sad about what's happening to it re. first time buyers and losing a sense of community. There are many places in the U.S. where locals are being priced out of the market, too, and that sense of community is changing dramatically. But you already promoted Robin Hood's Bay enough for me to want to visit at least! ;):joy: Love that photo of the drinking dinosaur rock, too. :)
