Hy I'm Andy new to triumph ownership and mine is a 1977 T140, I'm after a couple of things 1 being a battery strap and the other I'm after tork settings for the lower front wheel clamps. Thanks in advance, Andy hopefully over the coming months and years I may be able to help someone else.

    hi andy, and welcome.

those 5/16-24 nuts on the lower fork caps are a weak spot in design, and you should be very gentle tightening them up. the original fork caps are cast, and can be broken in half easily over the axle. aftermarket ones are generally billet and can take more torque, but it's not necessary.

about firmly wrist-tight is all they need, maybe 10 foot-pounds. more is overkill. if you think about it, four nuts at 10 is 40 per side. and each fork leg is only held on by a single 5/16-inch cap screw inside anyway.
