    Hi, I am a newbie to this Forum so just checking in, I currently have an 11 plate America which I have had for 2 years, before which I had a Thunderbird 900.( best Triumph ever in imho, i should never have sold it. Miss it like crazy!) I also own a 1975 T160 Trident which is being rebuilt.

    While I am here I have a cutting out problem with the America which seems to happen occasionally when on overrun, press the starter and it fires back up immediately, can anyone give me some pointers please?

    Regards
    Nick

    Hi Nick the first thing I would be checking is the tickover speed once the engine is fully warmed through. Can't remember if the America has a rev counter or not? If it hasn't get yourself an OBD Cable and download TuneECU then you can check the tickover speed as well as doing loads of other useful stuff.

    Welcome Nick, good luck with the rebuild, nice bike the Trident. I have a 900 T/ bird that i brought as a project. I'm still on the rebuild stage, but I can see why you would miss it, I may pick your brains as you used to own one.... Hope you get your problem sorted.

    hiya , welcome to the forum . I had this problem with mine occasionally when coming up to a junction , it would just cut out for no reason . It was simply because the engine revs dropped to low . I did adjust the tickover , but since I did the two conversions on the air return system & the exhaust sensors its never been a problem . I did go through a particularly annoying stage with it in the spring where it was doing it a lot , drove me mad

    Thanks to all for the welcome to this site. Also thanks to those who have made suggestions as to my cutting out problem I will look into them.
    Can anyone tell me if there is a thread that tells/shows how to remove A/I etc, as I understand this will give the bike more bhp.
    Regards to all

    Hi Nick just to be very clear from the outset : Removing the Air Injection system from any of the 865cc range of EFi bikes will not boost the power output of the engine/bike AT ALL.

    Most peeps remove the AI system because:
    1. They want to stop popping on over-run;

    2. Reduce the notchiness of small throttle opening;

    3. Blueing of exhaust downpipes;

    4. Reduce the temperature of the pipes therefore the engine;

    5. Remove the plumbing to give a cleaner look.

    Peeps who want better engine performance usually do the following,as well as removing the AI junk :

    1. Remove the airbox snorkel, replace the filter-retaining cover with a 'Breath' cover from TTP, remove the baffle plate within the air box, replace the std. air filter with a DNA hi-flow one (TTP);

    2. Remove the O² sensors, replace the std. exhaust pipes with more open versions;

    3. Install a new 'map' from TTP, to suit the above changes to optimise fuelling.

    If you do the above, do it as a complete package and your bike will run significantly better.

    Hi the Biglad, thanks for putting me right, you don't ask you don't learn. I will look into doing what you have suggested, hopefully it will improve roll on power coz I find this bike struggles two up unless you keep changing down. (so used to the torque of the 900 Tbird). Either that or sell it and get summat else, very disappointed with it.

    Nick you don't have to spend too much money on the mods - my pipes for instance sound and look good and they were £75 the pair brand new.

    Doing the mods I suggested makes a big difference to roll-on power delivery.
