    afternoon all

New rider here (well old at 43, but new to bikes). Passed my mod 2 last week and now ready to take the long path up to the Triumph Thunderbird LT. I've started out with a Triumph America which I pick up next Friday......just in time for all that gorgeous weather (/cry) and then hoping to work my way up the the thunderbird by the time I'm 50.

I guess the question would be - is it practical to use the cruiser every day (work commute which is only 7 miles) or should a consider a street triple or something for the daily commute. I've always wanted to be a cruiser type rider - never been too fussed about warp speed/acceleration and I'm perfectly happy sitting in traffic rather than filtering all the time (I'm a patient man).

I am a car driver also so if the weather is particularly bad then I can drive.....but my aim is to ride as often as possible

    Hi Bigvern,
    welcome in
As long as you don't nick it! ride what you like when you like is my policy, a cruiser is going to be good for most things, just remember to give em a long blast to clear out and charge up

Ah yes - I've heard about this acf50 stuff. Now that I've actually passed my test I guess I need to consider it properly (until last week it was all a maybe lol). So here's another newbie question. When you say smother it......does that mean everywhere you can physically get to? As in......everywhere (except brakes I assume)? Is it a spray or a wipe on type thing?

Welcome Vern young feller. Wash it, polish it, autoglym it then brush that acf50 on everything you can see that could rust, apart as said from brakes. Bikes are built to withstand the wet, so wrap up warm and dry and go enjoy it mate. Someone here I think recommended merino wool for a good base layer, which I would endorse. Aldi had some in store recently at cracking good prices.

Welcome bigvern, the only downside is you work too close to home at seven miles!! Putting your gear on and dragging the bike out on mornings will make you late!! I work 25 miles away and its only quicker by fifteen minutes once I've set up shop in the morning.
But what the hell, it brightens your day no matter what!!

Hi Bigvern. Welcome young man. Enjoy the moment.
Age is no limit, just add the two numbers together, in your case you're 7, same as me.
