Hey everyone! Finally passed my Mod 2 (2 attempts) and I can finally ride my 2010 Bonnie that I decided to buy just before I took my Mod 1, I thought it would be better to do the test on my own motorcycle... ohh how wrong was I (didn't read on the UK rules carefully). It can be done but is to much a hassle. Anyway I'm loving riding my Bonnie it is awesome!! First day of riding it went to Birmingham. I do have a question for the more experience riders. The bonnie that I bought has 7700 mile on the clock and it has only been serviced once at the 2000 mile mark. Do you guys think I should learn how to service it myself and do it straight away? or is it wiser to just take it to someone else like a Triumph dealer that services as well? bear in mind that most of my savings went into the Bonnie itself, insurance, tax, jacket, etc.. If you do think that I should take it to someone could you please point me to the right direction so I don't overspend? Thanks in advance, and look forward to learn loads on this forum. Dan
If it was me I'd gust give her a oil change if money is short, did she just go through a MOT to put her on the road?
Hi Daniel, welcome in, well done on your test and good choice of bike. Take a look at some YouTube videos on oil and filter change for your bike and see if you're up to it, delboys garage on you tube is usually good as is muddy sump. Tri Moto south london was recommended to me, not used them but they should be cheaper than triumph shop 020 8293 5335 or look at their website
Thanks littleade and 711jrp. The MOT was done in Feb I assume since the renewal is on 2017 same month. I have asked at metropolis motorcycles but they said that they will be able to do it on the 21 of July and for 200 quid. It sounds quite expensive but then again I'm new at this, it might be what it is worth. Will check Muddysump and other dealer and see what's up. Thanks
Hi Dan, if it were me I would be going through the bike, bit by bit, so that I knew exactly what condition she's in. This is how I would do it: 1. Oil and filter change - 30-45mins; no special tools or specialist knowledge but you'll get hand-holding "how to's" off the members here; 2. Check, clean and lubricate the chain and sprockets; then check chain tension; 3. Check tyres for wear, damage and pressure; 4. Change brake pads and calipers for operation - then clean caliper pistons and re-install pads assuming they are in good condition; 5. Check steering head bearings for wear and smooth operation; Can't think of anything else just for now, go and ride yer bike
Awesome!! thanks for all the advice crispey, thebiglad and half ton, i will have a look a those youtube video and see i can manage the change of oil and filter myself.
