hello Guys & Girls Having had all sorts of bikes (for more years than I can remember) I popped into Jack Lilley for a look - had a cup of tea & came away £££'s poorer with a new America which will be ready this week. Hit the extras list (as you do) & now busy making a wish list, with help of you tube. So far pipes are a choice between Short TOR's or British Customs Cocktail shakers & remap at 1st Service - any help with this would be appreciated. 1st run out will be Essex Air Ambulance run next Sunday.
Welcome to the forum , great news on the America hope you enjoy the new bike when you get it and good to have another cruiser on the forum :upyeah:
Thanks. Will try to upload some photos when I get it home & get it clean, if I can work out how you do it. Looking forward to taking it a bit easier going from a Suzuki GSR750 Extras wish list growing bigger by the hour. Great to have a British bike again. Owned a Bonneville the 1st time they were around.
Hi and welcome to the forum AB :upyeah: I'm sure you will enjoy it here as we have some guys who have a great deal of knowledge about your bike here and have always been brilliant at answering any questions about them. Cheers Steve
Welcome to another Essex boy with an America  Good choice of bike! I was born in Billericay and lived in Basildon for 20 years. Moved away 40 years ago but I travel up to Basildon from Brighton twice a week on the America to see my elderly and infirm Dad. Wave if you see me on the A13  In terms of accessories I added a centre stand, a small MRA screen, a Norman Hyde seat, Oxford heated grips, Fehling pannier frames and rack for Givi panniers and top box, and a small LED mounted on the screen to show me when the indicators are on!
Yo, I had first time around Bonnie as well. Good luck with the America. Be careful with remapping. Trumpet dealers don't usually have Dyno machine/rolling road to map to optimum, use a Dyno tester. 13.6 air/fuel ratio is about spot on. I had my 2009 Bonnie done (Hyde pipes/power commander, air induction kit fitted) They got me 15 miles per gallon more, higher toque etc and graphs before and after.
Hi Great to hear from you. And I thought my aftermarket list was getting a bit big!! Seen a great looking seat made by a firm called Maverick Customs on e bay, comes in all different colours. Fancy the small Dart screen as well. Fair old journey for you from Brighton, bike must be comfortable, the America felt that way for me in the showroom & seems very well balanced. Must admit perhaps I'm getting older but the Suzuki GSR750 I'm changing from wedged my old man & bits up against the tank all the time. Ended up holding all my weight & pillion on my arms & knees. My ex came from Billericay so know the area well. Stay shiny side up
Hi Thanks for the advice. I will have to try to find someone local. I read in one posting from a guy who said that the EFI remaps itself if you leave the bike to tickover for 15 mins. Not having much mechanical know how not sure about that, but it would be a good deal for a Triumph dealer, charge £50 sit & watch the bike with a cup of tea in your hand - I wouldn't mind some of that myself
Ha, crushed nuts I was never a fan of GSXRs and the like. The nearest I got was a CBR1000 and a VFR750 and even those gave me painful wrists. The stock seat gets a lot of criticism. Some find it ok but many don't. The Norman Hyde seat is better but 90 minutes up to Essex is about as much as I want to do on it. I did a 2500 European trip in June and used an Airhawk. I've done 13k (mostly up and down to Essex!) since I got it in July last year and reckon it's one of the best bikes I've owned. It's fast enough for me these days and copes really well with motorways and smaller roads. With a relaxed riding position, a tank range over 200 miles and a set of panniers and top box it's a very capable tourer. A screen of some sort is essential if you do intend to do a lot of "higher" speed miles. I forgot that I also added the Triumph footboards which really improves the long distance comfort. It'll do most things very well but ground clearance limitations means it won't scratch  (but I'm sure you knew that). Here's mine just before I set off for France.
Took a look at the Norman Hyde seat - looks comfortable I might see one "in the flesh" on Sunday. All the Jack Lilley crew will be on the Essex Ambulance run on Sunday as Jack Lilleys are sponsoring it this year. I try to go every year. we meet at Ford's testing ground at Dunton & run up to Harwich where there are a few dealers, a band and a lot of overpriced food. Must be somewhere near 500-600 bikes do the run. The America has the front footboards as standard now. Phoned the dealer today and it's all set for Thursday to get the bike so seems like all systems go. Will try to get some photos & post on here if I can work out how you upload them
My brother used to work at Dunton. He crashed his GS750 on the test track. Is that still there? I never knew anything about the Essex Ambulance run. Amaxing that you get 500+ bikes. I hope it goes well (the run and the new bike :smile In terms of photos I upload to photobucket and link to the photo there but I think you can use the "image" icon although the files I've tried to link to are too large.
Good to ave another Essex Boy on here lol ... Born Rochford, live Billericay ... welcome to the forum enjpy
The track is still there and Ford still use it. They had a guy doing stunts on a motorbike there one year as well while we were all eating our bacon sarnies & drinking tea before we set off & the air ambulance is always there and they do a low level fly past & then shoot off to Harwich & land on the seafront to let people get up close & kids get to sit in it there as well. Rather ironic one year the ambulance got called out to the A12 near Chelmsford to pick up a couple of the idiots who seem to think it's a race & binned their bikes.
Cheers thanks for your post. I was born South Woodham Ferrers now live near Burnham on Crouch. D Day getting closer bike should be here tomorrow all being well. Only joined the forum recently - been a long time since I was called a "junior" anything, now I am apparently a junior member. Does anyone on the the forum arrange anything like a local run out or meet. Burnham is full of bikes on a Sunday perhaps a few cruisers could even things up with the sports bikes
I'm not a fan of bikers' meets (or any other large gathering if I'm honest). For some reason bikes do seem to attract idiots :frown: Interesting to hear the track is still there. I'm not sure you can see it from the A127. I must check it out next time the A13 is closed and I have to use the Arterial. Burnham on Crouch? "A nice bit of posh" if I remember the song. Cheers Billericay Dickie
