Hi Guys, Bought my 1st Triumph yesterday and loving it. She is a 2010 Thunderbird 1600 and the handling is so much better than any cruiser I ever tried before. Might be a dumb question, but do I need to get the ECU updated/remapped to UK spec as the bike was recently imported from Maine, USA? Taking her on a charity run tomorrow and looking forward to doing some real miles. BTW, my last 30 years were spent on Jap bikes, mainly sports bikes, so my back and hips are enjoying the comfort of the big Triumph. Thanks, Damien.
I can't answer your ECU question specifically, but I suspect there'll be no reason to change it. Welcome to the forum!
You don’t need to re-map but you may want to. There is nothing wrong with the OEM tune but Triumph twins (just like other manufacturers) are muzzled by environmental regulations to reduce emissions - both sound and gaseous. Opening inlet and exhaust will boost mid-range power but you aren’t exactly short of torque. Contentment is easier to live with than nagging wants but you can end up blowing euros before you discover the gains weren’t worth the cost.
Thanks. I was just worried she might be set to run too lean for the warmer US climate. I find her performance just fine on the road and no urgent need for more power. Bought the T-Bird for a change from my more frantic and less comfortable GSXR and anyway I still have my old VFR750F in the shed if I fancy a flat out blast some day. Cheers. D.
Northern European air is generally colder and denser than Arizona but Maine winters? Same latitude as Central France...... I think you can regard it as acclimatised for the Emerald Isle!
Damien Great bike and fantastic intro. You will fit right in here in the asylum. No your bike should be fine. Just check your plugs after a couple of runs and they will tell you if lean or rich. And welcome to the Family Joe.
Hi Damian and welcome to the forum Nice looking ride. My riding partner has TBird Storm and they handle good. Not fussed on the peg pins, as I have seen them stand a bike up on the twisties
hey there... simple rule ... if it ain't broke don't fix it.....leave the ECU alone unless something is wrong.... If it does go wrong in someway - ...TuneECU is available for free online as are the various maps for the bike if things go wrong - you'll need a convenient laptop for the program and a lead - ie https://www.lonelec.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=57_25&product_id=52 but as I wrote at the start.. if it fires up and runs ok leave the beastie alone
