Hi Venomsnake welcome, I think there was a discussion in an earlier thread about this, I think Wayne Taylor might have been involved so maybe he'll get back to you.

Welcome and your answer is here, t cut and a Dremel with a polishing head on will strip back to a nice shine. If it's pitted then a product call rub n buff on eBay or any art shop which fills rough areas with coloured pigment and buffs to a shine. Enjoy the forum. Eric

It almost certainly is, that's why need to remove the laquer before you can clean up the ally. Once you've got the ally as you want it, either leave it naked and clean it often or laquer it again to protect the surface.

Well, it's either work with it on the bike with 1000 wet n dry and t cut just doing a local repair or take off and paint stripper all the item, remove any pitting with wet n dry and polish to death.
The problem is when painting a casing in colour etch primer can be used so no problem, when using a clear coat then no etch is used as it would be seen so it doesn't stick as well.

Hi Venom. Welcome in you jammy sod. My daughters bloke has just got his sticky mitts on 1960's model that's been hiding at the back of a shed for yonks and is pretty much the same state. Enjoy.
