Hello all. Is there anyone who can help me on this bike iv'e tried nearly everything at this stage. its a 1997 T509 885cc fuel inj model.

I bought it as a none runner. When i got it, it had them plastic dry break fuel line fitting. Now all are changed. Both lines and tank, Quick couplings, usa,

I have it 60 days never got to ride it yet,

Its breaking down after running on tick over for 2-3 mins. i did get it to run a little longer today with new crank sensor fitted but still cutting down when mill light comes on.

it runs fine at first, Then it cuts back like its down on 2 when light come on. ive spent hrs today then back on 3 runs fine the bad again all day long, it does still start when its hot. keeps breaking down then it cuts out.

I even changed the ecu out today with a used one still the same. Driving me mad. I have Tuneecu free download on laptop with lead for plug in.

Keep getting P1601. Mill open circuit, Short to ground. What the hell it ??

    Ive changed

    ECU used, coil packs used,
    new cam sensor,
    new crank sensor,
    a used whole wiring loom,
Took bike to triumph cork for plug in for latest updates,

is there any one who can shed some light on this.

Where do i go from here? what is the P1601 and how can i fix it?

Many thanks to you all for reading my problems hopefully some one will be able to help me.

I Have since up loaded a vidio on youtube to show you guys the bike cutting out. Please see it let me know what yee think.

    Welcome to the forum Gaz

I have got this problem (although not as bad as you with my Daytona 1000) and a friend also has an issues like this with his Daytona 750 and we have been trying to work out exactly what is causing it.
He believes that it may be the spark plug leads that are causing the issues as they are carbon leads and they break down over time so he has a set of copper leads that he is going to put on the bike and see if this makes a difference.

    Might be worth looking at

Also with your error code it might be worth getting one of these to help.

Hi Thanks for your info. I dont have coil leads. I have coil packs like a car. I just got a haynes manual so i will take a read if it and see it it can show me the way to sort it out. As i dont think it will help me on my probs? But we will see.

    Thanks

I mean the leads to go to the spark plugs you should still have them, yes?

Hi No there are no coil leads. Coil packs have plugs with 2 wires in them.

Hi this is the latest on this T509. Starter sprag repaired Perfect now. As it started slipping.
Brand new Motobatt battery 200 cca.

Ran bike today still cutting out but seems to be on 2 cylinders. Sprayed a little penetrating oil (WD40) on down pipes to see which got hot and dry off. Well 1 and 2 cylinders run good but 3 cylinder not getting very hot. Well to hot to hold but pipe still damp with oil.
So i thought it was a fuel injector. So i swapped out no 1 and 3 injectors. Bike still the same cutting out and running on 2 and what seems to be like 1/2 on number 3 cylinder.
So i did a compression test. Engine was hot so not the best test.

    no 1 cylinder 125 psi
    no 2 cylinder 125 psi
    no 3 cylinder 80 psi
Put a little engine oil in cylinder and shows 100 psi awaiting till the morning when engine is cold.
Manual does not give proper compression psi.
Just say engine should be between 140 psi and 200 psi and no more than 25 psi difference between cylinders.
So it looks more to me that its rings on no 3. if it was valves oil would not have made any difference in compression.

What i want to know is it possible for the engine to keep cutting out if a cylinder is down on compression!!!!!

Iv ran bikes with a bad a cylinder before but never keeps cutting out.. Is it to do with the bike having a ecu??

    Thanks

Hi did compression test today form cold.
put a little oil in each cylinder.
    1 showing 155 psi
    2 cylinder 155 psi
    3 cylinder 100 psi

    When cold i had
    no 1 125 psi
    no 2 125 psi
    no 3 80 psi.

maybe valve seats are bad or even burnt valves as compression did not come up that much.
Will soak no 3 cylinder and see if rings are stuck, lets see how it goes in a few days. :upyeah:
