Hi All, New to this site but not to Triumph, just sold my beloved 2012 STR & managed to get the first used 765RS that I saw on the market with only 250 miles on it, and the bonus was that it already had the goodies fitted that I would have put on, Arrow can, Evotech tail tidy & bobbins etc. I had years of years of riding 1000cc sports bikes but following an accident in 2006 on my GSX-R 1000K5 which severely damaged my left leg and ankle, this made rear-set riding position impossible so changed to a naked, this took the from of a 2006 Super Duke, this was a load of fun but when times got tough she had to go. I then had a 2000 Speed Triple for a couple of years, before I changed to a 2004 Tuono V Twin and when that became unreliable I found 3 year old STR with only 2,200 miles on, I bought this but fully expected to be disappointed by lack of power but couldn't have been more wrong! It was an absolute hoot to ride, and as fast as the litre bikes where it counts through the twisties. When I saw the new 765 model launch earlier in the year I was instantly interested & as soon as the demo bikes were available a got myself booked in for test ride. I dare say most have read the press regarding how good the new model is but would suggest that you try one for yourself but only if you're prepared to part with your cash, I had 2 goes from 2 different dealers.... just to make sure!. What they have done is make a very good bike better in every department, however when the dealer told me with the extras I wanted and with mine in PX it was going to cost me nearly £6000 to change I went off the idea, there is not much in the way of deals on these at the moment. But I got full asking price for my 675 STR by selling privately & bought a nearly new RS, this brought down the cost to change to nearer £4000, this is a price I could justify to myself and more importantly to my Wife! Have put a few miles on but I am still running in which is always tedious, I would point out that the UK Arrow can seems very quiet, I believe you can spec one for the US market with removable baffle but couldn't swear to it, does anyone know?
Many thanks for the warm welcome, was very lucky with the deal, looked on MCN website to see if there were any demos for sale & this jumped out at me, was on the phone straight away! Always more than one way to skin a cat as the saying goes, very happy to have got the bike I wanted at a reasonable price.
Many thanks, just need to get it run in now, first service booked for 24th, the fun will begin shortly afterwards! Still finding my way round the forum, will be interesting to find other owners of the same bike, best way of finding out the useful stuff.
Thanks Andy, I loved my 675R, recently went on a trip to France with a few mates, one of the owns an R1 M, strange though after a few rides while out there it was him asking for a go on my humble Triumph! He loved it & is considering getting one as a second bike. I rode his while he had a go on mine, it was like riding a skud missile with clip-ons! Seriously quick bike, but for the road I would choose the STR.
Hi Bill, welcome in, great intro ! I'm glad you got the bike and for a good deal too ! The running in part sure does suck and though there are many theories out there about how it should be done I'm for one is a firm believer in taking it easy as per manufacturer recommendations. The part about the skud missile made me smile ! Sure is truth in that !! Safe riding
Welcome along, that's a fantastic looking bike you have there, just read the test of the new 765 against a 675 in Bike magazine, needless to say they love it. Ps didn't I read that Triumph are supplying the 765 motor for use in moto 2 next year, that's gonna sound awesome.
Hi Angus, I always have run new bikes in more or less to what the manufacturer says, I think they know their stuff as they built the thing, once the run-in period is over I ride it properly, nuff said. That quote about the Skud missile was exactly was I said to my mate when I got off his R1-M, things have certainly moved on a bit. The last 'superbike' I owned was a GSX-R 1000K5, the last of the no rider aids, bonkers 170 BHP bikes, everything they did after that made them harder to crash, TC, ABS, anti wheelie, anti slide etc, the R1-M I road has had work, auto-blipper for clutch-less up and down changes special map, full Akra system, all these things combined give it 208BHP!! Way to much for my ageing brain these days! But he does track days, mainly down in Spain and I guess that is what the bike is designed for, I just found it a bit much for the road, that said it is the rider that decides how far to twist the throttle.. once a hooligan, always a daft sod!
Cheers mate, will have to get me Bike Magazine & have a read, will be interested to see their observations as I have owned both. I have heard that the engine will be in Moto 2 as well, can't wait for that!
Hi Winglad, If I rode it to work I would! But job demands that I use a car Only ride for my Adrenalin fix these days but to fair a normal ride out is between 90 and 120 miles so get plenty of time on the bike. And yes it is gorgeous, keep finding a reason to go out to the garage just to have another look, my wife thinks somethings going on! Here's hoping for plenty of dry evenings and weekends...
Running in now done. First service done. Now for some fun. I did notice that the manual explains the running in procedure quite differently to the sticker on the tank. I suspect that Triumph have got lots of stickers they put on all their bikes. I've just fitted some Blaze planners getting ready for a trip to Europe
