Hello peoples of the Triumph world. My father recently sprung my inheritance on me early, i assume because he wanted to see the pain on my face as he said, 'got an old Triumph Bonny ive been saving for you (and then in a smaller voice adding) however its all in bits in the loft. So joy followed by alot of whuh? So here i am, ive taken the bits out of the boxes and cleaned all the dust off them, however as ive only ever had Japanese stuff post 2000 era, i dont understand half the stuff on this bike so hoping to find some advice in here. He assures me all the bits are there, can anyone point me towards a handbook or manual that might assist me? Thanks in advance, i can post some pics if people are interested.
Welcome ...... I cant help much either I'm afraid, but, what I do know is you need to find and note the Chassis number Engine number Gearbox number ? you don't say whether or not the engine & gearbox are made in one piece (unit ) or are separate ( pre-unit ) construction. These will at least hopefully find you the age of the major parts and point you to the manuals you will need to rebuld the bike. Good luck
I suppose i should have lead with what the bike was huh? Not so great at forums... My father in his wisdom, had kept all the original paper work like a boss, he has given me the bill of sale, logbook and its certificate. Its a 1978 Bonneville jubilee i think. Reg is WOL 590T Frame is CP81540J Both according to the super old school logbook he gave me anyway. He had most of the bike wrapped up so has preserved quite well, however the engine is in unknown condition but dry stored for the last 30+ years so im hoping it wont need too much. Picture of the frame now in pride of place in the centre of my garage.
Two Bonneville Silver Jubilees for sale in the December edition of Classic Bike Guide, one for 75p and the other one for 93p. Not worth your while getting it out of the loft, but since you have I'll come and collect it and give you a whole pound for your trouble and then take it away so you don't have to worry about it anymore. I sometimes struggle to believe what a kind, generous and thoughtful soul I am. What??? Oh alright then .... one of them was up for £6400 and the other one for £7750. Certificate of authenticity is an important document to have. You are one lucky fella in my opinion. Enjoy resurrecting the beast. Do it properly and you will have a valuable asset there. Jealous?? Moi?? But of course!
Please tell me more about yourself but more so about your father, as I'm very sure I could be his long lost first born son, that bike I believe should pass to me without a lot of fuss and save you all the hard work ahead, Welcome in you lucky buggar
Thanks for the kind replies, i am surprised by how much the bikes are fetching, Ive even got the original bill of sale for £3000 odd. i was planning to put it back together, let my old poppa ride it once or twice to relive his youth, then put it somewhere safe. As im off work Sunday, i will take lots of pics of all my bits and start a build thread, im now stuck trying to find some company i can trust (west mids) who can strip, clean and put the engine back together. Im assuming it will run and work as it should, but as the bike has been stripped down and cleaned i should go the extra mile and make sure the engine is perfect. Im not sure about a long lost Brother Tez, but i can look into it
Hi You could try MTS classics who are based just outside Milton Keynes Have seen their van about for a few years now but not had any dealings with them They may at least give you an indication as to cost to sort the engine
