Hello all. Recently purchased a Thruxton 900 after 8 years away from bikes, mostly due to a lack of funds. Its a complete change of pace from my last machine, a CCM 640 supermoto that was brash, obnoxious and a little bit terrifying at times. Perhaps I'm maturing a little? Perish the thought! Absolutely love the look of this thing. And the sound from the British Customs pipes which give me a right fizz on the overrun. I'm intending to ride it until the weather closes in for the winter months, the previous owner had only travelled 6k on it since new, such a waste. Then over the winter I will start gently modding to make it my own style. Hope the wife doesn't want anything for Christmas as my shopping list grows by the day. The likes of Motone and TEC will be receiving a fair wedge of my pay packet that's for sure. Interested to know what's the one thing other Thrux 900 owners reckon is the best/most vital mod or alteration. Safe travels and keep it rubber side down.
Welcome from a fellow 900 Thruxton owner. Yours is a '66 Plate? Must be one of the last ones registered?
Indeed so. Came in handy the other day when a bike cop said aren't those plates for pre 79 (black and silver) and I said 66 is before 79. Once he stopped laughing he told me to promise to put a reflector on it and he wouldn't ask any other questions. A true gentleman and a scholar. Shame that style of old school policing is becoming a thing of the past.
Well Chuddy, I must say, you sir, have exquisite taste in motorbikes. I own a 2013 Thrux900 myself. Frankly, learn to enjoy the simplicity of air-cooled and a bullet-proof engine. Especially with all this crap about the new T120 water cooled gearbox issues I have been reading about. My "where-to-throw-your-money-at" list for your consideration.. 5. Look into Triumph Twin Power (TTP) safe-start idler reinforcement 4. Upgrade the brakes, or at least go to a HH sintered pad 3. Change the stock metzler tires 2. Get a TTP Tune, I like tune--3 1. Change the front and rear suspension Whole new experience in the twisties after the above. Oh and welcome to the forum.
Thanks for the advice MyEvilTwin, much appreciated. Suspension is high on the list, especially for one fond of pies such as myself, I am considering the TEC piggyback adjustable shocks and progressive fork springs as the reviews look very good. Also not likely to break the bank like Ohlins et al. Tyres are Avon AV65s, which I haven't found any issues with so far. Although not pushing them hard just yet. The idler reinforcement sounds like a sensible choice as well.
