Just bought a Triumph Thunderbird 900 from 2000s here in Sweden. Love it. There are some issues with it and I hope I can solve those. I will write in the forums for advice! But loving the forum so far, been lurking for a while and though now is the time to join! First question, excuse my lack of knowledge. Does it actually matter for an older motorcycle if I use the acid batteries as intended or if it is fine to use anything else? In my TT 900 currently, there is a lithium or a gel battery (unsure) in it from the previous owner. If I change it, is it fine with lithium or gel or should I try and find an acid version? Which Triumph intended for it to be? Can it change how the bike response or something like that, is there even a difference etc? Thanks! Happy to be here
Greetings from Lincolnshire. I've had my 900 Thunderbird 28 years now. It used to have an acid battery which always needed topping up. I've had a sealed acid battery in it now for over 3 years, with absolutely no issues in any way shape or form. Get yourself a charger/ battery monitor, plug it in and relax, and look forward to some fantastic days riding in Sweden. The only weak point is the sprag clutch, so always pull the clutch in before you push the starter button, and always keep your battery in tip top condition, that way you'll have no issues to worry about. You'll love the Thunderbird. It's the best bike I've ever had. Hope you'll enjoy yours too.
Hi and welcome to the forum. Electricity is electricity - so as long as the volts and amps match the original spec gel of lithium should be fine. Remember if you get lithium it’s a different type ov trickled charged you’ll need. I put one in my 2016 Fireblade 4 years ago now and it’s been excellent (it’s also only about 10% in weight of the original battery)
