Hello all. Am new to this forum and hopefully can get a bit advice on my 885i triumph. It’s been running ok but I have smelt a strong smell of fuel then last night seen fuel leaking from ns of bike as I was about to ride it. Just aswell I spotted it as it could of turned out nasty. Iam hoping it’s just a fuel pipe but for it to start randomly leaking doesn’t exactly give me confidence
Welcome Ray, it’ll probably be a nipped O ring on the fuel coupling to the tank if it’s got them, or a leaky petcock if it’s got one of those. Not sure what model you’ve got/ age of bike.
Or one of the fuel tank connectors has cracked, they were originally plastic and were upgraded to metal. Welcome to the madhouse by the way
Ray Langley If you have only purchased the bike. Get in touch with the dealer. Its their responsibility to repair and have the bike returned to their workshop for said repairs. Welcome to the Family by the way and do drop us a picture of the steed. Ride Safe & Enjoy Joe.
Hi Ray and welcome to the forum good luck sorting the fuel leak. Year and pix would help the guys to offer advice
Hello guys. Am new to all this forum malarkey so trying to navigate my way round still. The bike I have is a 1999 885i tiger. Plastic tank. My mate has a bike shop so he picked it up earlier as the rain stoped me having a look myself. I usually do all my own mechanical work to my vehicles but shitty weather and not being able to get in my garden for my van being stripped far better let them have a look. Cheers ray. Hopefully nothing much

Ray Langley. You're doing just great there. Cracking looking bike. You seem to be well clued up and the beastie will be as good as new again. Regards Joe.
got it booked in for a paint job on the 10th June. New colour burnt orange by triumph iyl post a pic when it’s done and hopefully it doesn’t bubble like it is now on tank. Apparently a common problem
Ray Langley. Will wait to see the new paint. I have read on here about the paint bubbling on the plastic tanks. Something about the ethanol in the fuel. Regards Joe.
I hope it’s not the fuel that causes it otherwise it’s good money down the pan. If it happens again looks like a tank cover is only option if that is I can find 1 as not having much luck sourcing bits I need. Ie... sump guard. Cheers ray .
Ray Langley. There was a big write up on here on one of the topics. Spillage I think got the blame. But I believe if you polish and protect your paint work it will be fine. The bike you have people seem to hold on to their spares and purchase any that come up. Show's just how popular the model is. Regards Joe.
Cheers for advice I will protect the paintwork after it’s done there’s some good products out there now. Hopefully it will stop it happening. Iyl have a look for the post about it just trying to find my way round on here. Cheers
