So after a week on my 2002 Daytona, I have found that on start up (morning ride) the smell from the exhaust is way too rich? at least it smells very rich, no smoke from exhaust really, just a bit of a petrol stench? its got an after market carbon exhaust and K+N Filter, and I have the paperwork to show it was re-mapped when the exhaust was fitted, so does it need re-mapping again???? or is this just a Daytona aroma lol.

    Cheers Guys

How many miles has the bike done and how long since it has been remapped (and was it done on a Dyno or just had a new map chucked in?)
My T595 was allegedly remapped by the previous owner but if the download gets corrupted or someone even touches the throttle when it is downloading then you need to start again (which happened to my one)

Does the bike smell of petrol only at start up? Does the bike also feel rough at low revs (3000 -4500) then you may have an issue with the mapping.

I would also be checking if the bike has had it's valve clearances checked as this may also cause an issue. I would also asked if there is any proof that the bike has been remapped as I had a brand new Speed Triple from a dealer (Pure Triumph in Birmingham) That had fitted Arrow cans to the bike and not changed the map.

Anyway I know you have only just got the bike so I would be banging fairly hard on the door of the place you got it asking for these things to be checked if you aren't happy with it.

    Cheers

    Hi Steve

    Thanks for the response.

    (1) The bike has covered just under 23.000 Miles
    (2) The last services were done by Triumph Dealer (6.000-12.000-17.000-20.000-22.000 Miles) and quite a lot was spent! well over 1200.00 GBP over the 5 services, so I assume they were done correctly.
    (3) It had a Tri Carbon Out Race Exhaust Purchased 10th January 2013
    (4) Exhaust Fitting and re-map (Tuning) was done 31st January 2013 (Updated Tune From 10152 To 10181 what ever that means) Reset Closed Throttle, And Re-adapted Fueling.

This is all the info I have from the service records apart from some receipts for other after market bolt on bits.

To be honest its only really on start up? and the smell is not really there after riding, but its not a smell I have had on other bikes I've owned on the past (unless they were old and past it)

This Daytona "seems" to have been looked after, and had some money spent, hence why I am a little confused about the smelly start up?

I can get my local bike guy to look at the valve clearances on the next service I guess, but that wont be for a while as its only just had One at 22.000 Miles! If its a big issue, then I would think One of the service guys might have mentioned it to the previous owner, I was kinda hoping it was just a Daytona quirk lol

    Thanks again

From what you have said it just must be the auto choke making the bike run too rich for a start. My T595 still does it even after it has been mapped and put on the Dyno.
Mind you I think you have got the next generation of EFI which is far more complicated than mine.

While we are on the subject one of the things fuel wise to keep an eye on is the alloy connectors on the fuel overflow pipes have a tendency to corrode and block up so it is always worthwhile to check them every now and again.

Apart from that you should have a very good bike.

    Cheers

Thanks for all your input Steve.

I guess now I'm a bit older I dont ride everyday, so as its sat there and started up only 2/3 times a week (and only if the weathers good) that could be the cause, just fuel sat in the tank, then getting fired up and making a bit of a stink?

As I said I think the bike has been well cared for, bit wondered if they all did what mine does, but my mind has been put at ease.

    Thanks again
